Adjust door closing - Slightly

Anybody know how to adjust vehicle door latches? What I want to do is adjust the striker (the part screwed onto the body a tiny amount, so that the door closes at a slightly different position. When you loosen the striker plate, does it move every which way, or is the way it's designed allow you to only move it in or out? This goes back to a problem I had with my access cab doors, and would take too long to explain here, but I would rather learn to do this myself so my anal-retentivity can be satisfied. I,m only talking less than 1/16". any advice would be appreciated.

well my truck had a little closing issue..asnt bad made a clank and didnt close real smooth....all I did was loosen up that latches on the access door..shut the front door with it loose then tighten it back up..just lossen it enough it the door will move it not on its own so it stays in place...after that door closes alot better

Are we talking about the same thing? I'm calling it the striker plate, the metal D-ring looking thing, but you're calling it a latch. I would call the mechanism in the door the latch. I just want to make sure I understand. Also, it sounds like you adjusted your front door, but you said you loosened the latche(s) on the access door, I'm a little confused by that procedure.

Yea, I guess we better get back to work. It sounds like adjusting is no big deal then. I could put some masking tape to mark the original location and get it back if I screw it up.

Do you happen to know what size those Torx scres are on the striker plate???

sorry no i dont...i used an allen wrech it fit in there fine and they are not super tight so you dont have to worry about screwing up the bolt head on them...there is no scar left on it from using an allen wrench

Excuse me for thread jacking but...

Have you guys noticed that it's somewhat harder to close the driver's side door compared to the rest of the doors. I always have to close it harder than the other ones or else it won't close. It really pisses me off. This is the only problem I have had with the truck. The dealer said it was normal. I've never witnessed any phenomena like it!!

Chime in if this has happened to you.:smokin:

makes sense to me it's the door that gets opened the most. it's probably engineered to LAST, like most Toyotas!

Mine's like that also (from new). Dealer 'adjusted' it twice. Little or no change. I just put up with it, but it's not what I expected from Toyota.
