Adjustments: Auto Lights On & Alarm Sensitivity

I tried to think of a short but descriptive title for my quarry.

I looked through the FSM, hoping to find a way to make adjustments to the AUTO LIGHT SENSOR system that turns the driving lights on at dusk, and a way to adjust the sensitivity on the THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM. Why?

1) The lights come on too late to suit my taste.
2) The alarm goes off if the wind is blowing above 40mph, or if I am on the ferry and the boat is really rocking in rough surf.

Has anyone found a way to adjust either of these systems w/o having to take it to a dealer?

Rtfm

A friend of mine told me once when I asked a stupid question, "RTFM".

Okay, funnysam got me to delve into my manual when he said there is a switch on the dash to adjust at what level of darkness the headlights automatically come on. According to my OM, not true!

I quote page 129 in the 2005 OM, "If you feel that the automatic light control comes into operation too early or too late, have the sensor adjusted by your Toyota dealer." So much for part one of my 2-part question. Thanks for making me RTFM.:

does the gen3 has this? (took out from gen2 service manual)

the sensor is located on the driver side neXt to the front windshield vent on my gen2.

page BE-21
12. ADJUST AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR
(a) Adjustment of the light control is performed by turning the
sensitivity knob on the sensor.
(b) This will be determined at what light condition the automatic
control will take place.
If response is too quick, turn the knob counterclockwise.
If response is too slow, turn the knob clockwise.

From what I am understanding, you mean there is an adjustment knob on the inside of the windshield on the dash. I do not see any such knob on my dash. I have a feeling everything is now done via a test and tune meter, but I will find out --- I hope. Thank you for your effort.

Try covering a part of the sensor and experiment.

or go to the dealer and pay for the adjustment.

What did you adjust on the door locks? If it was to unlock all doors as you approach (rather than the default setting of just the drivers side door), then that one is explained in the owners manual (it's just a series of button presses on the remote). If it was something else, I'd be interested to hear what it was.

Is there any way to have the doors auto lock as you walk away from the vehicle?

I'll definitely try to hit up the dealer to adjust the light sensitivity settings though. I've never had them do anything free of charge though.
