Hey gents,

Totally new to this and don't want to jump in with out hearing from you all first. I'll give you my situation and hope you guys can give me some feed back. I was given a white 2007 Camry (ce?) about 2 weeks ago. Gift from my pops. He got a hell of a deal.

It's got just over 57,000 miles, 2 owners prior in their 60's. Clean title and small fender bender that has been repaired and not an issue. 6,200 cash. I drove a shit box corrola that he took and sold and gave me the 1500 for. I have another 2000 I can use if I want.

I havent taken my cars seriously since my last '58 vw bug got wrecked by a drunk driver 10 years ago. Put 8 grand into it and 3 weeks after it was finished it was taken from me.

Well, I would like to make this car a little bit nicer then stock and enjoy it. Anyway, prolly a lot more info that was necessary to get to the point.

3,500 or so to put into it. Rims, skirt and such.

Is it worth doing with a 10 year old Camry? Should I give myself a limit?

Most of the Camrys I've seen here look awesome and made me want to do this. There was a user I saw on a google search that brought me here. His name was Holy Ride?
Had a 2009 with g37 rims, coilovers and skirts. I really like the look of that car and would like to go this route. Also in the picture thread the Camry with the roof rack was appealing.

Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Fixing up vw's and gsxr's were easy. I've never had to go this route before and would like some expirenced people.

Thank you all in advance.

It's your car, if you want something, do it. Doesn't matter if its 10 or 2 years old. My SE is also getting older but I continue to add to it.

I try to do basic/easy things. Tints, black out trim, full HID retro, sounds, window visors, remote start, etc.

The only thing I don't do is performance parts whether suspension or engine. I need a reliable daily driver not a sports car, those days are mostly over for me until some day I get a GS-F. May get wheels down the road but I do like the stock 17's my SE comes with.

If your intent is to sell the car sometime in the future, then you should think about spending money on non-essential repairs. If you are the kind of person who wants to keep a car as long as they like because they love it, go all out.

I threw in a few thousands after I got my 1998 from the first owner. I probably spent way too much time vs a normal person just using a car as an transportation device. Things such as trying to keep it garage, washed, waxed, and the works on a now almost 20 year old car, but it makes me happy and i'll never sell it...soo why not?

I second this, if you plan on selling the car, don't go crazy on mods. I too learned this lesson on my first car, a 2003 Camry, having bought Halo projector headlights, HID, stereo, spoiler, Lexus rims, billet grill, etc, only to sell after owning it for 10 months.

Adding LED lighting to the door panels, handles, and the drink/storage bin makes the Camry so much better. Take some basic knowledge of wiring, a drill, bits, and a bunch of LEDs to test....oh yea, fuses since I keep blowing them out ;)
Its not that hard, and spices up the car a bit. I added them to my Lexus and made a video a while back. It helps if you already have puddle lights in the doors:

Rock whatever you want until it dies or you get rid of it. My car is a personal expression of myself so I mod it to how I like despite the opinions of others. I put my car through the misery of stance, reverted to stock, then am currently having a blast on the track destroying proper cars. You had fun with your cars in the past so if you think its worth it, do it again ;)

Hey Hoot...welcome....

Beyond maintenance and repairs, the 12-year old Kitacamry has gotten a refresh every year since I got it 4 years ago....
1. tint
2. upsized rims to 17"ers
3. painted the roof black
4. got a hood bra for highway driving
5. painted the hood
6. replaced the stock radio with a DVD player and rear-view camera

Upcoming...front door LED lights and perhaps more/better LED lights indoors.

Such mods keep my daily driver looking/feeling 'fresh' to my eye and makes it less likely that I'll succumb to "lust for the new."

Invest the $$ in a no-load mutual fund that tracks the S&P 500 index. Putting money in a depreciating asset is like throwing it down a rat hole. You won't get it back. I have over 60 years of automobile ownership experience and can tell you only the $$ you spend for maintenance will be money well spent. Best advice you will ever have.Forget it.
