'03 XLS with ~100k
Installed new ceramic pads & rotors about 5k ago.
No leaks, system tight.
Probably LONG overdue for fluid flush & bleed (pedal a bit soft).
Familiar with manual flushing procedure and have done so many times before ABS became common on vehicles. However, I have questions regarding brake flush since this car has ABS. I've seen other forums noting a need for "odd" sequencing of wheel order plus specific methods to flush thru ABS hardware & valves (such as needing ignition key ON, scan-codes generated, etc). I don't have the Shop Manual (unfortunately too expensive for me). However, is there anything "odd" or "specific" I should know before diving into a brake fluid flush on my XLS? Is the sequence order the typical starting with "furtherst from master cylinder first"? I'm not looking for a step-by step (I'm comfortable with that). I'm looking for issues that might be specific or unique to flushing thru the ABS hardware on the XLS. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Nothing so much to worry about. The flush procedure is the same as normal, rear right corner first, and then rear left, front right, front left.

If you have the right equipment, you can command the ABS system to actuate the valves several times, purging the old brake fluid and taking in the new brake fluid.

Generally this isn't necessary in a well maintained car as the volume contained in the valve chambers is fairly small. The new brake fluid still goes through the ABS unit on a standard bleed. It just doesn't go into the valve chambers.

The only time you really need to activate the ABS system is if air has somehow gotten into the brake system, if you have severely contaminated or old brake fluid, then yes, the ABS unit needs to have the valves actuated to push air and the old fluid out.
