Like I really can not find any reputable information on this; I once read in a review, the SE camry had a tighter steering ratio, (ei, less rotation for more movement of the tires)

I want this.... I hate the dx and base models low ratio steering it's just ridiculous.

but on ebay, refurbished models don't seem to differentiate between. they'll say se and le and lxe is all the same...

Don't put much thought into Ebay listings. I ordered a window regulator that specified the same part for 2 door or 4 door cars. Found out really quick that 2dr/4dr regulators are very different.

There's also a good chance that the steering racks are interchangeable between trim's. So a replacement rack from an XLE/LE will fit an SE, but will lose the ratio.

IIRC there is a 2dr SE coupe at my local pick and pull. I could count the rotations from center to lock the next time I go, if nobody else knows off hand.

I've read that the Solara's steering rack has different valving that gives it more feedback than the standard Camry. I can attest to this as my Solara does have more road feel than a Camry, albeit still a little rubber-bandy.

I too wouldn't be surprised if they were interchangable with the 4 door.

If you really want more steering feedback, upgrade to wider rims and tires, you'll notice the difference right away.

Lol, I also read on a review somewhere that the SE model has a tighter steering ratio (probably here : http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicles/new/reviews/wk9408.html)

For me, I feel like it's more of an issue how numb the steering wheel is rather than the actual ratio. I find it really exciting that the Solara rack may have more road feel than the Camry unit.

Also, I wonder if the manual racks on the older Gen 2's might fit. Apparently the non-powered units can improve road feel, though it may not be the wisest idea as the newer Camrys are a bit heavier.

Well don't get too excited. While there is more road feel in the Solara's steering with stock wheels, its far from "sporty". There's still a rubbery feel to it, nothing like you'll get in a Honda or Mazda. For me, its just enough balance between comfort and cornering confidence.

It firmed up significantly when I had IS300 rims and 215/50/17 tires on it, though braking performance suffered notably.
