Anyone try spacers on top of coilovers?

Me and a buddy were talking about our lifts and how we didn't like the height of the 6in being to big and the 3in being to small. Anyone heard or tried putting a spacer on top of the donahoes, or camburg coilovers? almost like a 5 inch lift? I have no idea of anyone doing this and i don't know if it would work, just curious to see what everyone thought.

You'll need to buy a truck load of front axle shafts, but you can probably do it..........

i've been a little curious too. i want to keep my 285's and just gain a little more clearance. maybe even go with a slightly wider wheel or ones that stick out a little further than my 8" rock crawlers.
i haven't figured out a way to do it yet. i was even toying with the idea of making a custom body lift-:jerkit: --i know, i know, but i think if it were only an inch it wouldn't be so bad. i'd just like to back down my driveway and turn all the way without hearing that damn rubbing.

Bad idea. I've seen it done on a 2001-2004 tacoma and in my opinion, it looked ghetto. The only thing this will accomplish is pushing down more on the control arms and limiting your downtravel to just about zero. That it will ride stiff would be an understatement. Even worse, if its 4x4 and not prerunner, the axle cv's will bind. If you want 5" there's much better ways. If you're a prerunner, you can get the allied motorsports spindles for 4" then a coilover for another inch. If you're a 4x4, they advertise the pro comp lift as either 5" or 6" (not sure exactly what you do for the desired height). Even if you went w/ fabtech 6" you could use a coilover and crank it down to lessen the lift to the desired 5". I'm not a fan of body lifts at all, but if I had to I'd rather thrown in a 2 inch body lift w/ a 3 in suspension, rather than the spacer on top of hoes or camburg.

thats a good idea with the spindle and all. but i have no information behind it, the website they have doesn't say much. plus its only been tested on one truck. guess i'll just keep my hoe lift.

Don't do it, Toku. You already have a nice truck. Besides my opinion that BL's are crap, that one is too expensive, BL's are a lot of work, and if you do even more work to cut it shorter, the brackets for the bumpers would also have to be modified.

Yes I know about BL's both of my other trucks had them on. I had no issues with either.

I was thinking about a 2" BL because I actually only want about another inch. So with a 2" BL I could remove the top plate to ease the CV angle.

I still have some things to consider. But I'm hoping when I'm ready someone will make a 2" BL.

This is from my own experience... on past generation tacomas.

I think the most you can add up top is about 1/4" spacer which will give you 1/2" lift.
I wouldn't necessarily go any more than that...

If you add a spacer that's too large - you begin running into problems with your shocks being too short for up-travel. You'll bottom out your struts and put all the stress on your frame. Not good....

Also... if you already have lift coils up front - there's a limit to how much spacer you can put inside the coil assembly also. You'll start breaking the struts.

The Allied spindle is BADASS! I've seen it person. Rory went out with us in his 4runner to Lucerne, and they are bullet proof. He also has hoes, but he has them cranked all the way down so there is no preload. It rides like a cadillac and travels like nobody's buisness.
