Yeah, I think that's why Toyota is adding CarPlay, they finally realized it was affecting sales. Also too, I wonder if the 2018 Camry had CP/AA if it would've won 2018 North American Car of the Year instead of the Accord?
I think they got tired of every review going something like this:

“The 2018 Camry is a huge improvement...but...no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.”

“The interior materials are great...but...no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.”

“Tons of safety features are standard...but...no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.”

“The Hybrid gets 40-50MPG...but...no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.”

“Nice to see the V6 with everyone else moving to turbo 4s...but...no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.”

The thing toyota doesn't seem to understand, which is baffling to me, is how much of a safety feature acp/aa are. I see younger people driving around in Carollas all the time. Lots of people in their 20s. Not having acp/aa in these cars forces people to use their cell phones while driving. Yes, their is Bluetooth, but at some point people are gonna pick up the phone while driving. I'm 37, and I'm guilty of it. While I'm happy toyota is adding carplay to the avalon, not a whole lot of young buyers are driving avalons. I could even see toyota saying something like "we tested out carplay in the avalon and it wasn't very successful", but what's the average age of an avalon buyer? 55? Toyota dropped the ball hard here. They should've added acp/aa to the Carolla and camry line before the avalon. I'm hopeful they get their heads on straight before my lease is up. I really love the new camry, but I'm not settling when I sign my new lease agreement in 2019

As someone who has CarPlay in another car I don’t see the draw. You have to plug your phone in every single time to use it. Entune reads me my texts over Bluetooth and I can respond via Siri. All without taking my phone out of my pocket. Yes it would be wonderful if the USB connection would be fixed so scout could work better.

It all depends. I'm an android user and can't use Siri, and toyota doesnt offer the Google assistant. Also I can/could access many other apps through Android auto that I can't through entune (Spotify, Google maps, Google play, Google assistant etc). All of this required me to pick up my phone to access these things. Android auto does offer the stand alone app, which is useful because essentially my phone becomes android auto, but I still have to pick up my phone to do anything.

The one draw I see is using Apple Maps for navigation, particularly with the reported problems with Toyota’s app-assisted navigation.

Otherwise, I prefer my Bluetooth connection that doesn’t require me to plug something in and remember to take it with me when I get to my destination.

That being stated, I’d rather have the option to use CarPlay than not have it, so I’m glad to see Toyota jump on board.

Also too, after the 3-year free trial, Toyota will charge a $24.99 annual fee for Scout GPS. No annual fee for CarPlay.

Bluetooth connection is very annoying

Bluetooth connection has very annoying feature: once connected, it immediately tries to start something to play. Audiobook player, or music, whatever it finds. So I'd definitely choose Car Play, if it's available.

Had to experience everyones devotion to this ACP thing. Test drove new accord and they hooked me up to try it out and yes it was nice and convenient. To me though its not a deal breaker if it comes great if not no worries. It would be nice if we get a software bump but it doesnt take away from my decision to purchase the Camry over the accord. It appears though I am in the minority in this thread.

Again, it depends on what you'd use carplay/android auto for. For me personally, I use Spotify all the time. I have no way to access it unless I pick up my phone. Entune has given us stupid apps like iheart radio and slacker as opposed to apps that people actually use like spotify(and many others). Also, for what I paid to have navigation from toyota, id rather use Google maps. It's light years better than the factory navigation. Also as I stated earlier, while camrys have Siri eyes free, they leave Android users completely in the dark.

The apps built in to entune are complete garbage. Why they wouldn't just support both sides is beyond me. However I will point out that I have had both a galaxy S7 and now a pixel 2 and the steering wheel controls work with Google assistant. I will say when I first got my pixel 2, it didn't work right. It would bring up the prompt to talk but wouldn't hear me say anything. I think it was an issue with the assistant because after a recent phone update, it started working again. This is how I tell it to play music and podcasts and such without grabbing my phone.

My guy at Toyota is saying they are working on the Android Auto software update so it's coming. From what they've been told the Alexa update on Entune 3.0 probably won't come until 4Q.
After reading their clarification again, it leads me to think what Toyota is getting at is that the 2018 models with 3.0 wouldn't get a potential software update to get CarPlay for the time being, until the 2019 Avalon comes out. I would assume Toyota doesn't even have the CarPlay software for Entune fully developed right now, since this seemed like a snap decision. As of a few months ago, Toyota was telling everyone that CP/AA were off the table.
Officially not seen Toyota making any statements on AA, but according to SlimJim83 insider information, that tells a different story. I hope that is true, then again I don't think any company a is happy about his employee leaking such info.

I don't really care one way or the other. After spending 45mins to an hour reconnecting my iphone to entune early today. I got into my car after work (5 hours total sitting time) and was told the phone was not connected and to contact Toyota. Several hard resets of entune and still nothing. Finally got the piece of crap audio to let me choose FM and turned on XM.
I have hated XM from the day I got it in 2007. But compared to entune its heaven. I was planning to cancel XM finally. I just renewed for another year.
As far as Toyota they can take Toyota&Camry&Entune and push them into the Pacific Ocean. If Toyota think they will charge me for this abortion their genius's created their NUTS. In 35 months when the lease is up I will lease again BUT NEVER ANOTHER TOYOTA. I will also spend the next 35 months convincing everyone who will listen NOT TOYOTA, anything but this crap.
Have you tried any Carplay enable HUs?
there is no messing around with BT pairing process, no Apps to download, no account to setup.

The only thing you need to mess around is get a Apple Cable and insert into the USB port (maybe hard to find) and your iPhone. generally you will see a popup and make the right selection to enable Carplay. From that point on your phone calls works, music Apps works etc. No pairing of Bluetooth required.

Apple hope getting a cable is easier than messing around with the HU and phone settings/setup.

I also read that 2018 Sienna and Camry will not be receiving Car Play/Android Auto

If Toyota chooses not to add CarPlay to the 2018 Lexus models that support Enform 2.0 (NX, RC, LS and LC) there will be several really pissed off people out there who paid north of $100K for their cars (LS and LC). Just imagine trying to trade one of those in to get a 2019 model. I’m sure they’ll be sure to make their opinions known to Toyota corporate. Interesting side note, I was talking to the GM of a Lexus dealership near me. He told me that no one is allowed to test drive a LC until they are intent on buying it and they sign all the purchase papers.

Toyota is being very tight lipped about AA/AC. They knew this past summer that it was coming because the reviewers that pressed them for answers said they changed their position from 'no' to 'not yet'. Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal but for whatever reason they are being very selective with their communication although they are willing to tell us Alexa is coming to Entune 3.0 with no real date.

I'd still be surprised if Carplay wasn't a software update to 3.0. If they were that serious about not updating the system what is the purpose of retrofitting Alexa? I also think a lot of the marketing about the Linux open-source infotainment this past Fall was an interesting tactic. They obviously wanted people to know they could tailor the infotainment system (at a later date) to their liking. They had to have known Entune 3.0 was crap and wouldn't stand against the competition although I am in the minority with no issues thus far.

I’ve been getting so many conflicting answers. I asked a internet specialist at one dealership and he assured me Toyota would issue a software update to give 2018 owners the update if they had Entune 3.0. However, I also asked another dealership and their manager said that 2018’s would not be getting the update and it would only be rolling out on 2019 models. I don’t really know who to trust and Toyota corporate isn’t saying anything. Although I see absolutely no reason to deprive 2018 buyers because I’m sure a software update would do. I’m in the market for a 2018 Camry and I do not have time to wait for 2019 models and I’d really like a Camry. It’s ridiculous they can’t give a straight answer.
