Does anyone know if all the 3RZ FE 2.7 liter 4 cyl engines are exactly the same? Reason is , I have one that will come out of my 94 t 100, would like to have it rebuilt and dropped into my 97 t 100. The 97 has the 3RZ FE in there now. I think it will fit, but I got a little suspicious when one dealer wanted to have my vin # in order to order one. Thought maybe there might be some subtle difference? Thx

Thank you sounds like the rebuilt 94 engine then will go into the 97 truck. Both are regular cabs. Both are stick shifts. Don't know if they will have to replace the heads or not. The 94 to be rebuilt is complete as it is. Would probably buy one already done, except none seem to be available.

Does anyone know where to get one? Thx!

Keep in mind that the early 3rzfe engines were not exactly the same as the later years. The 1994-97 T-100 3rzfe had the distributor version while the 1998 T-100 3rzfe got the COP (coil on plug) system.

Also, the valves had a tendency to tighten up over time. There was a thread over at TacomaWorld where the owner rebuilt the head. ;)

There's a number of threads about the 3rzfe over there since they used those more in the Tacoma than the T-100. ;)

Thank you for your replies, you guys (or gals) are great! I thought I had read where someone said their t100 didn't have a distributor, which I couldn't understand because I knew mine did, now I see he must have had a 98.

But, at any rate still sounds like a rebuilt 94 should go into a 97 truck and work with no problems right?
