Armrest Issue

For me, the drivers door armrest is much too low, maybe 5 inches lower than the center console.

I can easily reach the steering wheel with my right hand when resting my right elbow on the center console. But I cannot reach the steering wheel with my left hand when resting my left elbow on the door's armrest. Not even close. The only place to rest your left elbow when driving is all the way up by the window, and that area isn't really padded at all.

I guess I'm going to have to make some kind of pad to velcro to the armrest to resolve this. But that seems like a stupid thing to have to do with a car as nice as my new Limited Platinum.

It amazes me that car manufacturers still don't offer this. You can find this on a $30 office chair. Even if it's a mechanical adjustment (with a button/lever at the bottom of the armrest) where it can have 4-6 inches of travel, that would be something a lot of people would like. For long trips, I roll a towel and put it on there.

With proper hand placement on the steering wheel, 2 and 10 o'clock according to my 1972 drivers' ed instructor, elbows should not be anywhere near a resting place.
10 and 2 is no longer considered the optimal position. My youngest got his drivers license last year. All 3 kids were taught to put their hands at 9 and 3. Reason for the difference is the introduction of Air-Bags.

I usually drive with my right arm at the 2 o'clock and my left arm out the window.

The heating element on my steering wheel feels like it runs from the 10 position, down and around and up to the 2 position. It is almost like toyota wants to discourage putting hands near the top of the steering wheel.

Beverage in one hand, burger in the other, left knee at 6:30, right foot for gas and brake. Couldn't be simpler...

If you can find one they really work well.

First issue when I had the highlander was this...on a test drive you are more in focus to test the vehicle...not get comfy in it. So I found it to be at least a 1 to 3 inches low.

I think it maybe the first post I made here a little while back. Once you have the seat and steering adjusted, you don't want to mess it up for the elbow.

Those links may work, but they are a bit lame, and I dont live in the car to justify it. Besides, its the armrest lower down, it give a different support. between 3 cars, it is low and less comfortable.
