Auto Trans Fluid Capacity and Drain

We bought a 2019 Corolla HB last year. Since I drive a ton, I'll soon replace the auto trans fluid. I'm not doing a flush, just drain and refill. Anyone know how much drains out? Not the capacity, but how much will drain just pulling the plug. It's always less, sometimes much less than the full capacity because of converter, etc. Thanks for any info.

If I had a CVT instead of manual transmission, I'd just get 5 quarts of MAG 1 full synthetic CVT fluid from Rock Auto for only $5.20 each... Its specs are excellent compared to all other CVT fluids. Suitable for Toyota CVT FE applications.

The price is reasonable because it's made in USA to the highest industry standards, instead of imported from Japan or Europe.

His problem is that with auto tranny's you don't just drain and fill as one would do with a manual. You can only drain a portion of the fluid at a time -- say 2-3 quarts. So you end up draining 2 qts, refilling 2 quarts, drive it a little, and repeat 3-4 times. If it was me I guess I'd buy 12-15 qts and try it out. You can always go my more if it turns out very little drains out at a time.

OP, I think you might be the Guinea pig. Be sure to report back!

We're not talking about a conventional automatic transmission... Although it does include a torque converter, this is a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Its total capacity is 9 US quarts. It does have a very specific method of topping it off to the proper level, at a certain temperature with drain plug removed and plastic level pipe still in the pan.

It is of relatively slightly higher viscosity at operating temps... It should offer outstanding protection. It's also listed in Red Line's OEM compatibility list.

Red line MT-LV 70W/75W is absolutely excellent in my manual 6-speed, by the way.

Nice. I’m a huge Red Line fan, running their 0W20 oil in my 2017 Tacoma V6 3.5L along with MTL in the Man Trans, 75W90 in the diffs, Ravenol 75W in the Tcase.

Really love the Group V synthetics.

Finally got around to fully changing the AT fluid. Like before 1.5 Qts drained out after removing the drain plug and another 3 Qts after removing the plastic level plug, total 4.5 Qts.

The plastic piece you can remove with a Phillips or screwdriver, or even your pinky finger, it wasn’t torqued down in there. So I put it back the same way.

CVT fluid FE 08886-02505, fill plug is 24mm socket. To be exact on what Fluid you MUST USE, call any Toyota dealer and provide them with your VIN number and they will tell you exactly what you need. Why chince out on the second most expensive component piece on the car and chance it on some knock off fluid that may fail or worse yet ruin your transmission for good. Good Luck.
