Auto Trans upgrade?

I have an 07 Corolla S, I am wondering if there is a way to replace the 4 speed auto with the 5 or even 6 speed automatics that Toyota has out now.
The 5 comes on new corollas with the 2.4 and Camry offers a 6 with a 2.5. Will these tranny's bolt up and work with a 1.8?
Even if physically possible I can understand if other things like computer programming and such make this upgrade impossible, but I just thought I would toss it out there.

i don't think the stock computer could drive all of the transmission solenoids. i'm sure it could be done but you'd need both ECM's and wire them both to piggyback each other. the ECM for the 5spd auto would need to be fed all the engine data and have false outputs to keep it from limping the trans and the engine ECM would need to get some inputs from the trans to keep from setting a check engine light.

it would be a very very complicated setup.

it really wouldn't be worth it, you'd be better off trading in your corolla for the camry or whatever. now, if you were asking if you could swap a 5 or 6 speed manual in place of your existing automatic, then the answer would be yes, you could do that. :D
