I have read lot of posts on seat not being as comfortable as es350, I had 2 es350 and I can say they are correct. I did get use to mine but now I think I have a defective seat. Something feels like it rocks when you accelerate or hit brake. Like seat is loose, but it does not appear to be. It is like the springs in side are not right. Anyone else having issue?

I agree that the drivers side seat is very uncomfortable! the dealer checked it out and said this is how the seat is and there is nothing wrong with the seat. I bought a 2013 Camry and turned it in on the 2013 Avalon because of the ride. Believe me that the seats were much more comfortable in the Camry. Also dealer said there is nothing in the drivers seat but foam.....It do not fell like foam to me. Yahoo cars has lots of Avalon owners complaining about the seat....but not one here is saying anything. Guess they are really use to bucket seats with a hard bottom seat.

I am puzzled by this thread, as I find the seats, including the driver's seat, on my 2013 Avalon V6 Limited to be comfortable, supportive and fine in all respects. The seats in the Limited are different from the other trims, but I had thought that "Premium perforated leather-trimmed multi-stage heated and ventilated front seats;" in the specs at Toyota.com referred only to the quality of the leather, and not the structure and padding of the seat.

Yes, I'd have to agree...I find our Hybrid Limited to be very comfortable, too. Perhaps it is MY wider and larger than most butt (6'-5" 290lbs.), maybe that's what is helping me?!. :D Or perhaps it's because I came from our 08 Highlander and 11 Tundra. But (no pun intended) I like it, the whole car feels like a sports sedan, much more than a luxury car. Of the 27 cars I've had, 8 have been Honda/Acura products and 12 have been Toyota products...so for me the Avalon is more like a Honda ride and handling, than a Lexus.

I've also rented a Camry Hybrid twice, one time for a week. And I like the Avalon WAY better in my humble opinion...for me, the Camry's side arm rest/power window switches would dig into the side of my leg. Anyway, just my two cents...again coming from a guy who's had 27 cars, and most recently SUV/Truck types (with the 4Runner, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, and Tacoma being the last 5 purchases).

The seats in my 2013 XLE Premium Avalon are leather, not perforated, and they have the heater element but not the cooling. Dealer said nothing in the seat but foam rubber? So how do the seats heat? I had a 2013 Camry XLE and the seats are longer and soft plus it had a heater unit, but the seats had no feeling like you are seating on concrete. Maybe the Avalon Limited seats are different because of the package trim? My friend has a 2003 Toyota Sondra? and those seats are very comfortable.....it make no sense when you spend more money for a car upgrading from Camry to Avalon that the seats are worst. I have to admit that I was spoiled because I traded in my 18 years old Lincoln Town car on this Avalon and those seats are like a couch. However, I still do not like the feeling on sitting on concrete and the vehicle has only 400 miles on it. My friends also agree that the seat is very bad so I do not think it is only my feeling. Also, it is interesting that some seats are good and others are bad...is it quality control? I read that one lady was using a pillow to sit on so finally the dealer fixed the seat!!! I always hate it when a dealer tells you the problem you are experiencing is not there and everything is fine. Their probably glad they do not have to ride in the seat too! It is very difficult to evaluate a seat on the short test drives, so after you begin to use the car daily the seats begin to bug you and you lose your tolerance. Because of my age and I only drive 5,000 miles a year, I hoped this would be my last car.....but may be faced to buy another over just seats....what a shame!!!

Sometimes it just ain't worth it to be aggrevated. It seems the only way you are gonna get things to your satisfaction is to ssimply find a good auto shop that does seats and have them rebuild yours. It should not be crazy expensive. Better to spend maybe a couple hundred and enjoy your ride than to be annoyed and knock your head against the wall trying to get Toyota to do something, which in this case, they apparently are not doing.

Years ago I went to an upholstery shop and had a 1/4" of foam rubber added to the bottom seat cushion in my Miata and it made a huge difference and didn't cost much.

Just finished a 6 year adventure with 2 motorcycles.
60,000 miles, no crashes; I'm done, sold them last month.
While I was in that world, I noticed that a LOT of cycling is about getting an expensive custom seat made so you could stand to be on the thing for a few hundred, or thousand miles.
Not everyone did this but enough that there is a lucrative aftermarket.
And of course, the custom seat was also a crapshoot.

Now here I am in the priciest car I'll probably ever own.

A 10(TEN)10 way adjustable seat. A car with a reputation for comfort.

And we're having this discussion because a bunch of us, who have sat in a bunch of cars, think this one is lacking.

Guess I'll start with the $5.00 cushion from Walmart; then move on to the $250.00 model from Relax The Back.

But, my "word of mouth" is not going to be pleasant.

I agree that the driver side seat could use more padding. On mine there is something rigid that seems to run down the middle (back to front). I can push down with my hand and feel it. I wonder if it has something to do with the ventilation. I've had heated seats in the past that have been extremely comfortable but never ventilated ones. It is really the back end of the seat that I can feel...on my back end. :D I'm thinking about getting a smallish cushion just for that one area. This is a great car but the seat cushions are a bit disappointing.

Maybe someone can make a poll to see whose seat are uncomfortable and which model of the Avalon they own to see if there is a difference or a random problem. My seats are comfortable and I have a limited.

Go ahead and do it, and I promise to vote. What do you need, 8 choices? XLE and comfortable; XLE and uncomfortable; XLE Premium and comfortable; XLE Premium and uncomfortable; etc. Or 14 choices, so V6 and hybrid models are listed separately?

I have a similar problem with my 2013 Avalon Limited. When I brake or hit the accel. (especially in a turn) I FEEL a "pop" in the bottom cushion as if there were a loose mounting bolt. The dealer mech. said he tighten up a "clip" in the cushion which helped for about a week. Now it's back doing the "pop" feeling again. Anyone else experiencing this? :dunno:

I think it is a fair statement that the seats in the new generation Avalon are firmer than the seats in the older generation Avalons, to the point where it is noticeable to most drivers. Also, my butt was more comfortable in the Limited seats than the other lower trim models, so I bought the Limited model.

That said, this problem is fixable by simply installing some additional foam in the seat bottom per the below thread:

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/3...-4th-generation-2013/723697-how-install-additional-foam-avalon-seat-bottom.html

Other things that can be done to improve seat comfort:

  • Apply leather conditioner. The leather will soften and the seat will feel better, just as leather shoes when they are polished.
  • Drive it. The seat will soften with use.
  • Lower tire pressure to 31 psi. Fewer bumps with be transmitted and they will be felt less through the seat.
  • Be patient and manage your disappointment.
This is a temporary condition that will resolve itself in time or you can fix it now by installing additional foam in the seat bottom.

That's good advice if the problem is stiff leather. But if, as some have noted and as I'm experiencing, the problem is that there seems to be a pipe running north-south immediately under the leather and a thin layer of foam.... then softening the leather won't help at all. It's very VERY uncomfortable, as it puts pressure on sensitive parts of the human anatomy. Love my avalon but this really makes it a pain in the backside (literally) to drive.
