Has anyone replaced the postive battery wire on a 96 camry? I need to either splice it together, or put a new one in. I tried splicing it, ghetto style with just electrical tape, but its not giving my car enough power to start. I couldnt find any splicing connectors at the store that are that big. It looks like itll be some work to replace the whole wire....I think I see were its going, but Ill have to take out a bunch of stuff to put it back in, and I was having trouble getting this plastic thing up thats under the air filter. I didnt want to break it. Any help on splicing it better, or putting in the new wire would be much appreciated...

whats the problem? you bought one of those positive battery posts by stinger or something and not that huge connector wont fit?

I suggest pulling the wire out of the plastic thing that holds it in... you gotta take all that wirewrap and other stuff off, then open up the plastic box thing and get the wire out. then you SHOULD have just enough room to cut the metal thing off and strip off a little coating and get a little wire into the thing... The small wire should then become free enough as well.. give it a try.

use box cutters to strip wires and cut them. i use this on 8 guage wire and greater, i havent invested into a tool that doesnthis yet, too much.:p

the positive wire goes from your battery to your alternator.

you can just simply add a new stretch of 4 guage from alternator to the positive battery terminal. this will help chraging system, there would be no need to remove your stock wire. just leave it, unless is damage or a hazard.

you can go ahead and upgrade the otherto main wire while your at it.

1. negative batt. to caar chassis ground. (real simple)
2. then engine block to chassis ground.

use 4 gauge wire and your all set.

I call this the "magic 3"
helps with dimming lights and only samll quirks when you have a stereo system or whatnot.

goodluck

This is generally unsafe because you have NO PROTECTION in case of a short. You will fry your alternator and/or battery. Why do you think there's a 100-A (or 80-A) fuse in the fusible link between alternator and battery?

normally you would be safe, i would trust myself with not fusing

but i reccomend that you fuse with 80 amp fuse, very simple.

pluse it would look cool if ya did it right;)
