I'm looking to upgrade my stereo system in my 2001 camry, anyone have any good brand suggestions? I'm thinking of putting in a touch screen, but I'm more so looking for speaker suggestions.

Kenwood DMX706S Excelon Head Unit (Double DIN touch screen): incorporates wired Apple Car Play and Rear View Camera. Alpine KTP-445U Power Pack, Compact 4-channel car amplifier — 45 watts RMS X 4, Crutchfield Sound Ordinance B8PT (125W RMS) powered subwoofer (under passenger seat) and Alpine S-Series speakers sound amazing and was all fairly affordable. This combination can get VERY loud, but the clarity and bass are fantastic. You won't flex windshields but you can definitely wake your neighbors! Total retail price was under $1K. If you get a Head Unit that does not have a CD player in it, the compact Alpine Power Brick tucks right behind the 1/2 depth HU, making amplified system install super easy. NOTE: if you have the upgraded stock 6 or 8 speaker system in your Camry, you already have an amplifier. It is under the front passenger seat. Do not add additional amplifier(s) in series with the stock unit.

I just recently installed a JBL sound system (amp and speakers) from a junkyard Camry ($50 for the whole lot) and am VERY impressed with the improvement in sound quality over the stock system, still using the stock head unit.

Regarding aftermarket speakers and amp(s), "best" is a very flexible term because it will all depend on how much you are willing to spend. For instance, a dedicated subwoofer with its own power supply can make the whole rest of the system sound incredible simply because you can cut way down on how hard everything else has to work.

Regarding touch screen head units, name brands like Pioneer, Alpine and Kenwood are all well proven and have huge range of prices/options. There are also "no name" Chinese head units which cost far less, but come with their own menu of potential problems (they are sometimes rejected name brand parts sold from the scrap bin, its hard to know for sure).

I like Strega315 suggestions but would change a few things. I would go with a component speaker up front driven by a Kicker 47KEY200.4 amplifier with a built-in DSP. Will require a bit of extra wiring as you will wire the door and tweeters separately, but well worth the work. I would then just drive the rears from the head unit. The head unit is a great choice as is the sub. But I would spend a bit more on the door/rear speakers if you have the money.

I do have upgraded speakers in my 06 Camry all driven thru a Kenwood Excelon DDX6906S. Stock Amp and Sub.

In my Nissan Frontier, I put in component speakers and the Kicker Amp above and it sounds worlds apart from my Camry.
