Bleeding brakes....in what order?

98 Camry 6cyl 4 wheel disc brakes.

Car has been in my possession for 3 years and I want to bleed the brake lines and add new fluid. I do not know if they were bled with previous brake work before it was in my possession.

I read in some post here that the rear of the master cylinder is for PR and PF brake lines and the front of master cylinder is for DR and DF brake lines.

I always thought that you do the furthest away first to the closest. So.....PR, DR, PF, DF. I have only bled brakes a few times so I just want to get it right for this car.

What is the correct order? Thanks!

ehhh, not so fast. Although it's probably not that big of a deal, looking at some photos online the ABS controller looks to be on the passenger side..... the furthest wheel would probably be driver rear....

I was going by usual location of master cylinder. I don't think a DIYr can bleed an ABS - can they/should they?

What I've done on my ABS vehicle is bleed brakes in order stated then find a dirt road and make the ABS cycle a few times.

I have never had a problem bleeding a system with ABS even if the system was completely out of fluid I use the standard procedure.

You can always bleed the system, I just don't think you can bleed/flush the ABS unit.

Interesting, what kind of ABS does the third gen have, I wonder?

Either way, looks like I could bleed the brakes at all 4 wheels, go to a local gravel lot and slam the brakes a few times, then bleed again...

Well I've never had to do that. When I bought my wagon it has no fluid in the system at all (rusted brake line) after repair I bled as per usual no issues. I guess some people want to believe it can't be done? :whatthe:
