I got my Venza a couple days ago :eek:hyeah:. I have tried to read all the posts regarding pairing phones and such but I do not see anyone with the same issue..
I have bluetooth and nav. When I go through the pairing process my phone and the nav screen will say connection successful and then my phone will beep and ask me if I want to play music then disconnects. It is a Pantech Impact phone... I assume if the phone isn't compatible it will not connect at all right??
It seems that immediately it recognizes that I do not have any music stored on my phone so it disconnects..

There are options to pair as a media player, phone, or both. Sounds like you might be pairing only as a media player, which then disconnects since you have no content.

I have my Droid paired as both and it works fine on all three Toyotas (Tundra, Venza, Sienna).

Thank you for the reply. I can't find where that option is so I can see how it is set up or change it. Can you help me?? :)
Just push the Talk button and let the voice prompts take you through it. If you're not sure what to say, just pause for a second and it will list the available commands for you. In your case, I would try "setup", then "phone setup", then delete the phone you already paired and start from scratch. Your dealer should be able to walk you through it if you get stumped, although I have always had better results just letting the system talk me through the steps.

When I go into the audio bluetooth settings I do not have anything set up so my phone is not in there (I've never used my phone for audio before). When I get in my car it will say "bluetooth connection successful" and then my phone will light up and say "headset disconnected", then it will be disconnected.??

OK - your phone is automatically connecting but the connection is still hosed up. Check out the NAV manual starting at pg 242 - the section called "Telephone settings". This will allow you to delete the phone you entered and try setting it up again to see if this corrects the problem. The section on deleting the phone starts at pg 251. In a nutshell:

1. press the "SETUP" button on the NAV
2. touch "PHONE"
3. touch "MANAGE PHONE"
4. touch "OPTIONS"
5. touch "REMOVE PHONES"
6. select the phone to remove
7. confirm the deletion by pressing "YES"
8. follow procedure to add the phone back

BTW - I didn't realize you can issue a voice command to "ADD NEW PHONE" but as you mentioned it will still bring up the setup menu on the NAV screen where you will need to perform the setup.

Also, there are sometimes bluetooth compatability issues with certain phones due to which BT profiles the phone supports/doesn't support. For instance some phones may not let you automatically upload your phonebook from your phone to the NAV phonebook database. For more info on which phones have been tested and any limitations check out:

Hope this helps. I had problems getting my LG to connect properly the first time so I could use the phone as well as BT audio streaming. Deleting and resetting up worked for me.

I am having difficulty setting up the phonebook with names. I currently have and iPhone and was wondering if you can sync your phone with the cars system? I would like to see the name of those calling in if they are in my phonebook.

Thanks for your assistance.
Do you have the nav system? I know it supports the PBAP (phone book access profile) which allows you to download the entire phonebook from your cell phone as well as displays the incoming callers name if it is in the nav systems phonebook.

I have a 2009 Venza and in the owner's manual it mentions that the non-nav bluetooth supports only the HFP (handsfree profile) and OPP (object push profile). I may be wrong but I believe you may need to send each contact from your iPhone seperately if you do not have the nav system as I do not believe the non-nav bluetooth, at least in the 2009, supports complete phonebook transfer. Perhaps someone with a more recent model Venza can confirm this?

iphone calls work with venza, but cannot stream music

Hi I just bought a new 2011 Venza, with all the options - including the nav system and JBL audio package. I have a iPhone #GS running iOS 4.3.5 and it pairs with the venza very easily. I can take calls from the car, manage contacts etc.

However, I have not been able to stream music from my iPhone. I also saw a youtube video online

but i cannot get this option to work? When i go to the audio screen on the venza, the "BT" tab stays disabled?! ANy idea how to make this work?

I read all forums but no luck yet.

Thanks in advance.

Bluetooth Pairing Problem

Hi,

I have a 2010 Venza, I like it a lot but is anyone else having a couple small problems:

I cannot pair more than one phone at a time. It should be able to Pair up to 5 (or something like that, I don't have the manual in front of me). A little help?

The other problem is, we've had the car for over a year and the "Current Econ" is not working right IMO. It jumps all over the place and often shows 0.0 L per 100km, which would be pretty awesome if it were true. I know these things take time to calibrate but 11 months? Is any one else having this issue?

The Venza can only link to one phone at a time. (one driver.. so they assume the other occupants can use their own phone without the need for bluetooth). You can have the phone in the system's memory, and then switch back and forth depending on who's driving. The exact voice command if I remember correctly is:

Setup>Phone Setup> Select Phone> "name you gave your phone" > searching.... "name you gave your phone - selected" > confirm.

Once linked it will stay linked until you select another phone.

As far as the fuel economy monitor.. there are two settings.. one is real-time and it will show you how much fuel you are using depending on the slope of the road.. and how much you are pressing the gas pedal. It's not smart enough to understand whats happening when you have your foot off the pedal so it will display as 0l/100km..and 20l/100km when you are going up a hill.

The display you are looking for is the Average Fuel Economy.. that will show your total average for that tank and will change up and down slowly by 0.1l/100km the more you drive.

Just to add, it's possible to display both the current fuel econ and the average fuel econ at the same time. Check your manual for the set-up.

Also, as I understand it, when there is no demand for power from the engine, like when you're going downhill or slowing down, the electronic fuel injection stops fuel flow so the emissions are cleaner and you are burning 0L/100KM.

You will still be burning fuel when the display shows as 0l/100km.. it shows that at idle because it does not have the KM traveled to compare consumption to. Even while rolling down a hill.. if the engine is running (no cylinder de-activation).. then it should still show a consumption rating.. but doesn't. Slight flaw IMO. Maybe it's lower than 1l/100km and rounds down to zero? haha

I still use good old fashion fuelly to track my consumption.. 9/10 times the rating on the average was bang on with my calc. :)

I don't know of any Bluetooth devices that will allow a memorized pairing to change dynamically, based on whichever device is currently in use. If there is more than one phone actively paired with the Venza, how would it determine which phone is calling out?

Also - I've owned and been in vehicles that allow a "rolling average" mpg, whereby it takes the mpg from the past ~10 secs and displays the average. This makes that display a lot more useful if you are economizing your driving style.

The newest Honda Bluetooth systems automatically connect to whatever phone is available from the previously paired phones.

Example: in our Toyotas, we have to manually tell the system to change phones. So if my wife's phone is paired and then I take the vehicle out, I have to go through setup and tell the system to select my phone. Not a big deal but it is an extra step. Then when my wife drives the Toyota again, I have to reselect her phone for her.

With our Honda, if she has been driving but then I take the car out, it automatically selects my phone. Similarly, when she drives it again it automatically selects hers even though I was the last driver. If we are both there, it selects the last phone that was paired. It's a very slick setup. Also, all it takes to switch phones when we are both there is to turn off the phone we don't want paired; the Honda then pairs with the remaining phone within 30 seconds.

Connecting 2 phones for Audio and Phone using bluetooth

I'm new to this forum. I own 2010 Venza. I love the car.
I'm having a trouble pairing two phones using bluetooth. I want my phone to be connected as handsfree and my wife's phone as audio player. I was able to do this with HTC Pure for handsfree and Samsung Sunburst for audio. Recently I upgraded to Samsung Focus S. Now I'm not able to do that anymore. If I connect my phone (only phone mode), then the audio player gets disconnected automatically and won't pair again, until i disconnect my Focus S. Is there anyway I can pair them like I used to do with my old phone.

I can only speak of the Bluetooth that comes with the factory nav system but in our '09 Venza it automatically pairs to whatever phone is available. I am not sure if this will work if the engine is still running and the person whose phone was paired leaves the vehicle but it certainly does automatically connect any of our phones when the engine is started no matter whose phone was last paired and we have 4 phones paired.

I added the BLue Logic option after delivery and I/we pair our phones to the Blue Logic by adding the device to our phones' menu of blue tooth devices. When a cell call comes in the appropriate phone receives the call and transmits through the Blue Logic for audio output.... I can't say with certainty that the factory hands-free operates similarly. As for pairing a phone for audio streaming, does the system view the device differently from a phone connection?

I guess the question is:

Is manual paring v. "automatic pairing" really a deal breaker?

Also, FWIW, toyota ought to disable the "Current" fuel economy display which is pretty useless.....unless ya really gotta have an instant readout on "how's my driving" relative to fuel economy to make them an economical driver. That's like watching investment gain/loss activity from second-to-second.... which doesn't make anyone a better investor,

If someone needs a frequent snap shot in time about fuel economy.....they're missing the bigger picture like focussing on driving. Unless they like to see the ludicrous 90-mpg readout:facepalm: JMHO

I also have Blu-Logic and audio streaming works great. Any nav commands or music choices from my Droid automatically mute the radio. The downside is the audio only comes out the front two speakers and you have to control the volume with the Blu-Logic volume control as opposed to the steering wheel audio buttons. The built in Bluetooth in the newer Venzas offers more features. OTOH, you can do voice dialing or any other voice commands that your smartphone supports using Blu-Logic, and these features are NOT available with Toyota's built in system.

Personally I like the instantaneous mileage readout because it helps me adjust my cruising speed on the freeway for best economy. Unfortunately, it seems that anything above 70 starts to suck gas, but at least I can see the difference between 75 or 80 to help decide how much gas I want to burn.

ok I just got a 09 Venza and it does not have Nav. I'm understanding that I will see the blutooth symbol on the radio display if it's running. I do not see a blutooth symbol, so why and how do I fix it? There is a speaker by the overhead light, but also there is what looks like an earpiece mounted on the mph & rpm display glass.

We have the BluLogic on our 09 and it works very well. We had paired our LG Env Touch but that phone had quite a few limitations especially processing speed & voice recognition. Just bought a Motorola Droid Bionic, it paired very easily to our BluLogic. The Bionic seems to have the speed and power the Env Touch was missing. I was not totally happy with the BluLogic until I changed from the LG to the Bionic. The phone and it's processor makes a HUGE difference. We placed the blame on BluLogic when it really was our phone. Wyovenza
