Hey folks, I purchased a 2014 Camry SE recently and the whole bluetooth interface is extremely glitchy on the vehicle. For instance, when you get inside the car and turn it on, the bluetooth takes forever to connect to my phone, but mostly doesn't connect unless I go into Setup-Bluetooth-Disconnect my phone and connect it again.

Second, the incoming calls on the car speakers sound horrible. There's this "sound-distortion" that comes out of the speakers and the call quality is not very clear.

On our 2012 Camry, everything is perfect. As soon as you get inside the car and turn it on, the bluetooth connects instantly (and I really do mean that - takes max. of 5 sec for it to connect), starts playing the song where it left off, and the call quality is crystal clear using the car bluetooth system.

Spoke to the dealer and apparently Toyota is aware of this problem in the new Camrys' and they are going to be sending out a "flash fix" in the near future.

I am just curious, is anyone else with a 2014 Camry SE/XLE having similar problems?

Just an edit, I had tested out a 2014 LE at the dealership - which has the same interface/software as the 2012 LE (they look alike atleast..) and the bluetooth system and the functions work flawlessly, just like on our 2012 LE....so I am guessing it may be a problem with the interface/software that is found in the SE/XLE models (with GPS) which is different from the LE model....

You are absolutely right about the 2012. I doubt if the "flash fix" can fix the vibration on the speakers. Flash fix is for the software. BTW, what phone do you have?

i have an iphone and it is set to auto connect meaning when i get near my car, it connects in about 20 secs. i can't find a setting on my iphone to disable the auto connect.

Thanks guys. I ended up taking it in and they will be performing a full diagnostics next week, not satisfied with the performance of the audio system and bluetooth system at all.

Is it just me or is the "newer interface" on the 2013/2014 SE models slower than the 2012-2014 LE interface?

Like I said before, the interface on our 2012 LE is absolutely flawless. I tried the phone on a 2014 LE at the dealership and it is again perfect because it had the same interface as our 2012 LE..

Other thing i noticed on the 2013/2014 SE interface, you cannot "browse" your song track list with only a bluetooth connection - its greyed out. However, if you connect the phone using the USB to the car, the browse option is back and only then can you browse the track list and what not...found that a little odd.

Also have an iPhone..it automatically connects to the bluetooth. Like I said, as soon as I get into my 2012 LE and turn it ON, bluetooth connects instantly but 2014 SE...it takes a while - very sluggish.

Bluetooth is quirky

When I got my 2013 with basic audio in June it was somewhat inconsistent in connecting to my older (3-4 yr old) Android phone and it wouldn't download my phone contacts for dialing. I got a newer HTC One this month and it works like a charm including the phone contacts. So, it may be the phone that is the problem. But it was a bit slow to connect with both phones (15-20 sec).

The main annoyance to me is that if the radio is set to BT source, it ALWAYS starts playing music from my phone when it connects, even if I don't have any music app running on the phone. And it seems to play some random song rather than the last song I was playing. But that may be the phone making that choice.

Also another minor annoyance is that my contacts are stored on my phone as last name, first name. But the radio insists on sorting them by first name. So two people with the same last name may be pages (of names) apart. Wish there was some way to limit the list to just favorites as my contact list is pretty long and it takes a while to scroll through the whole list.

Ha thats funny, I have my contacts sorted via First name and HATE that it sorts them by last! Havent figured out how to change it yet to sort by first. Need to see if its an option I missed. And yea I hate that BT audio deal, but since I now only listen to music via USB drive it always defaults to that and doesnt mess with the crappy audio BT music and more.

Nice to see a local person. Im just up the road a bit from Rocklin :)

So far my 14 SE works fine for bluetooth. My main complaint is I cannot plug into the USB port and use the phone handsfree features, only using bluetooth. Using bluetooth and Pandora off my phone is a bit iffy.

Are you trying to use USB to just charge your phone? If that is the case you can get a charge-only cable and it will trick the phone into thinking its plugged into the wall adapter instead of a computer.

Here's how to make your cable charge-only if you want to use an existing one:

ps, it will also charge your phone faster if the usb adapter has > 500ma output

i've noticed that my car will do it if i don't choose a source right away. if i choose Sirius then i'm good. however, if my wife plugs her phone to the usb port to charge, the radio will switch to that source automatically.

Toyota Camry Bluetooth

My 2014 Camry XLE Hybrid is in the shop right now for exactly this issue. This is the 5th time it has been in. The Bluetooth has never worked correctly. No one can understand me when I talk on it, it also is troublesome getting connected and staying connected, but by far the worst part is the quality of the speaker. 9 out of 10 callers say they cannot even understand me. My brother only knew the call was from me as he saw my number.

I am a Real Estate broker and one of the main reasons I bought the car is the Bluetooth feature. I have had the care since September 2014 (it's the 2014 & 1/2 model) Hybrid. In Oregon if I call without a Bluetooth I am subject to a $500.00 ticket, is Toyota going to pay for my tickets. I need this feature to do my business. I am totally frustrated by the service on this car. It should be fixed NOW or the car needs to be replaced..

I completely agree. We have been addressing the issue since the first 5,000 mile service for our 2014 1/2 Camry. The dealership cannot fix it, the technician that came to the dealership for this "special" problem couldn't fix it, and no one else is doing anything else to help us. Aside from changing out the microphone, which we have asked Toyota to do, we have tried every other setting possible. It is not our phones, it is the microphone.
We too live in a state where there is a hands free law, and have had clients hang up during calls due to frustration.
We are also having a problem with this vehicle holding an alignment, but that's another thread.
At this point we will most likely finish out the extended service plan we purchased and then then buy a Honda. It's too bad. This was our 5th Toyota in 11 years (we have a Tundra also)
Unless anyone can help us.........

Same problem, same car

Same issue here, same vehicle. We have been asking to have this fixed since we bought the car in October 14. Toyota service technician can't fix it. It's like they don't believe us! There is no resolve. Have you addressed this problem with your dealership?

I recently purchased a '15 LE and I noticed that the bluetooth is a bit flaky. Most of the time I start the car and my phone sync's within a few seconds, but there are times when it either takes minutes or it doesn't sync at all requiring me to cycle bluetooth (disconnect / reconnect).
Haven't brought this up to the dealer as yet, still trying to figure out if it's a setting that's not quite right.

The phone works in my other car without issue.

2014 1/2 Bluetooth / Radio issues

Purchased mid 2014. I have taken the car in for the 3 x 5,000 mile check-ups. I have complained about the Bluetooth from day 1, the GPS map taking me to wrong locations and it even maps to have me U-Turn to get to my location I pass. The radio screen highlight does not follow where I set the button to for radio - you actually have TWO radio stations highlighted. The dealership said I was unique, but have ordered me a new radio brain to be replaced when I make the appointment. I was told the Bluetooth, mapping, connection, radio were all "unique to me". However, they updated all the software and that has never fixed the issue. I was told one idea was to disconnect my phone from the car and reset my phone to factory settings - I have over 1,500 contacts in my phone - I don't think so. The tech said it is a known issue with Samsung software phones from version 4 and more current. My Samsung is on version 5.0, so this is a long lingering problem.

NOW in addition, I have at least 3 cracks in the clear coat on the hood, and again "this is a unique situation". Their initial review is that it must have been a car wash or I had a piece of metal in a towel I dried the car with as it looks like scratches to them. What I find curious is they are VERY LONG cracks and VERY STRAIGHT. The car has NEVER been to a car wash.
