Brakes Squeaks when backing up

I noticed this happens quite regularly when I back out of my garage. I was wondering if you guys get it too? I have less than 10,000KM on my car so i don't think the pads are worn already lol.

Mine is doing that when it rains but only for the first few braking cycles (until it gets hot). It’s really annoying to stop at an intersection with a squeaky shiny new Camry. My old GM never had this problem. BTW, anybody knows wether the front brake systems are single or double piston setups? Mine is still so new that I didn’t yet took the wheel off LOL.

No squeaking when backing off.

I came to the forum tonight specifically to see if anyone had posted about this! I brought my 2018 SE in to the dealership and they said that it's "flash rust" such as after moisture/rain, as some of you have indicated. The problem is that I can now replicate it almost every single time I back out of a parking spot and it is getting to be quite an obnoxiously loud squeal, and it seems to happen more when I come to a forward stop as well. After a few minutes it seems to be better the rest of the drive and of course is only noticeable at low speeds like parking lots and drive thrus.

The tech said it's because of the open wheel design of the SE which allows more moisture in. I don't think that's acceptable as none of my other vehicles ever had such a persistent problem. It's a very nice vehicle but when it squeaks and squeals in a parking lot, it's a very bad look (sound). I'm at about 13K miles now and the squeaking is happening in cold weather and wet weather, particularly after not being driven for awhile, but it definitely happens regardless of if it has recently rained or not. I didn't notice any squeaking in the summer, either due to the weather or probably just the fact that it was <10K miles at that time.

Is the only fix seriously replacing the rotors? And if so, is there a compatible brand that's specifically resistant to this kind of rust and noisemaking? I'd love to hear more thoughts now that I know I'm not the only one.

The sound comes from vibrations. Anything vibrating in a braking system under load means loss of stopping power (energy). Now, I don’t feel like I’m loosing any kind of stopping power but it isn’t perfect and the “comfort” part is altered. Nobody likes a perfectly working brake sounding like a stopping train.

Although my xse doesn’t have this problem, I’ve had a few vehicles in the past that would do it. Try spraying the hell out of the pads area with brake cleaner. You’d be surprised at how much gunk builds up in there. It’s always fixed the squeaky brake problem for me. Cheap quality pads or rotors will also cause squeaks. I don’t care for how quickly the Camry rotors have gotten some rust on the non contact areas. I’ll be replacing them with good quality zinc plated rotors or coated rotors soon once the aftermarket guys start selling them for the ‘18s. It also doesn’t hurt to spray the brake area at the car wash on occasion to help keep them clean
