It's probably an aftermarket replacement cover. They don't always fit perfectly.

 

That would piss me off. There was no collisions or body work reported on the Carfax printout.

Guess I better pull the whole thing off and see if I can find a part number on it...

 

It's possible that the tab inside there just isn't holding in the clip. Taking it apart might provide an opportunity to fix that. Even a factory bumper that has been hit can distort some. Carfax doesn't reveal but about 25% of what actually happens to vehicles. I see hundreds of small shops who don't report to them in my line of work.

EDIT: This doesn't look like a big problem. I bet it's easily solved but just trying to get it to "stay" is not going to do it.

 

Hopefully you're right and it's an OEM bumper that just got tweaked a bit. I do agree that it's not a serious issue though. It just annoys the hell out of me :headbang:

 

One of your clips is off. No biggie but a PITA. I have 3 female drivers who "tap" everything they park near...:facepalm: so I go to ace hardware and buy plastic push fasteners. Then when the clips pop off I push them back together and inside the seam ,where you don't see it, I drill a small hole and add a small black push fastener to hold the bumper. Sometimes I will add some gorilla glue to the fastener to make sure it doesn't pop off again. Works like a charm and the black push fasteners look OEM. They work really well when the bumper pulls away at the wheel well opening.

 

My avalon has this but has been replaced by an aftermarket bumper. I thought mine was the only one. Not sure what to do to fix it tho...so just been dealing with it. Let us know if you do find any good fixes.

 

My 06 Has this issue on the drivers side as well as where the rear bumpers meet the wheel well the tips stick out. this is an original bumper and the dealer told me many Avalons suffer from this.
