C60 6 speed into ae101 4age Help!

I'm looking for those who have any actual experience or knowledge on the XRS C60 6 speed.
I want to swap out yet another dieing c5x for a xrs c60 6 speed, in my 4age blacktop ae110 (converted zze110, its identical mechanically and chassis wise to a ae101)
Ive lots of bs and speculation, I want facts.
I have a c56 belhousing
4afe un equal length drive shafts
As well as a half shaft to use equal length shafts
A c56 lsd

I want to know if it will mount. C56 belhousing will retain the exact same rear mount I have now.... I have to check bolt pattern for left/trans mount
Axles; Ive read poeple talking about different axles because of different splines and lengths etc..
If its mounted the exact same as my c52 I would assume the axles dont need to change for length, also since ill be using my c56 LSD (assuming ill have to swap the ring gear for the c60 which is apparently larger, no worry) the spline count for the axles will be the same.

Linkage/cables; XRS c60 has the selector on the rear of the trans (facing driver) so I assume nothing has to change, no more than a c160 into an ae101 with a 4age... which is the same as a zze110 with a 4age. Minor shifter base mod to reach reverse. From what I know virtually all toyota transaxles use the same gear selector to shifter cable bushings, so attaching my cables should not be an issue on this front either, however ive read opposite.

If there is someone with concrete info here, or knows someone who knows... please pitch in!
Thanks for your help!

I'm in the process, I installed my C60 this past weekend. The bell housing was swapped. Keep in mind to properly do this, the transmission has to be disassembled from the tail shaft end. And your mention of the shafts, I didn't swap the ring gear. I used the c60 diff so the splines are different. And I already know what axles will fit. There is an issue I'm currently working is the shift cables. In fact your statement about the corolla c60 selector at the rear. Can you show proof of that. I researched for a while and thought only the Matrix XRS had the selector on the firewall side. If the Corolla is the same, this could very well solve my cable travel issues.

To be honest, I don't think there is anyone else who did the conversion and posted up about it except me. I think I'm the first to have the C60 mated to the 20V BT

Ok thanks! Im going to go look at the trans I plan to buy in a few days, ill take pics and confirm; its listed as off a Matrix, but car-parts.com will cross to applications that are the exact same only; ive used the site a few times for transmissions, they have it down to if the gearing is different it wont cross. They have the Pontiac Vibe GT and both XRS' s listed the same; the celica is different (front facing shifter) for sure.
What is your issue with the linkage cables? Is your selector rear facing or front facing?

What you said is correct. I also found mine thru them. I got mine from a Matrix but a Vibe GT would also work. I believe it's the only one with the linkage on the firewall side of the transmission. The Celica and Corolla I believe are both on the radiator side.

So to answer your question, mine is on the correct side where it needs to be, but the shift cables don't have enough travel (throw) from left to right. This means either I need another shifter, another cable, both, or modify it somehow.

However, last night, I compared the brackets (last pic) that the cables lock on to and they were different. The C60 bracket in the foreground. The C56 in the background is "taller" which shortened the travel length. It might not seem much, but this slight difference did make a difference. So I swapped the bracket. Things improved a lot but still not all the way, plus the alignment was a little off for the cables to hook up straight.

http://forum.twincam.org.au/topic/2183-6spd-c160-installation-guide-ae82-ae92-ae101-etc/ Well im glad to have somebody else doing this at the same time as me!
What was done by the guy in the link is he actually swapped the internals of the c60 into his aw11 mr2 c50, using c50 belhousing, center case and selector, and c60 tail case. If the cables dont line up, and since ill be opening mine up anyway, maybe ill do what he did and hybrid it with one of my c56's.

I've read that one, along with a few others many times over. What I did was use the C56 bell housing only, the center housing, and tail housing and all the gears, diff, and guts was from the C60. The reason the center housing was used from the C60 was because the selector shaft was not the same as the C56. I didn't think to attempt to swap the C60 selector over into the C56 housing. I'm not sure that's possible. There is definitely something different there and I can't remember the exact reasons, but I don't think you could use it without more modification.

I know, again, I've read these threads a thousand times over. Notice his reply #208 below:

First issue: Shift Rail. My dad and I created a hybrid C52/C60 shift rail ............... and then I found out that the stock shift rail in the Celica will work without any modifications! :smack: But at least I didn't have to buy anything and I got it working.

I was reading further along and also noticed his thread was conflicting. In some pictures, the C60 looked to have the shifter on the firewall side. But he clearly said it was from a Celica which means it would have been on the radiator side. Then after he tore it down again due to other complications, and the final unit shows the shifter on the radiator side. In post #214. He shows further modification to the shifter. This is also one of the main reasons I stuck with the C60 center housing.

About my current issue, I haven't had much time to go back to it. Will try to spend a few minutes this evening but I don't have long. Maybe some more this weekend, but basically I didn't get them hooked up all the way. With the other bracket in place, the cables were not in exact line with the linkage part and I was fighting to maneuver into place to get them hooked on the transmission, I will try at least to get a picture later and post it. I just ran out of time last night, but my thoughts are it's a lot better than it was. and my issue was almost solved just by replacing that bracket.

While I may not go this route in this point in time id like to in the future, next c52 I blow up lol..
Anyway, stumbled upon a 5 speed from a 2004 corolla the other day, it has the exact same shifter selector setup as your c60, where it sits out a little further (or is longer) than our older c50/52/56/160 style. This would leave me to believe any 120 series corolla/matrix cables should work! I called toyota the other day and there is a specific part number for the shifter cable set for a 6 speed matrix XRS, that doesnt appear to be used by anything else... However sometimes identical parts have different numbers for reasons that don't matter ;)

Lets get you through this! So I can do it too! :p

^ Thanks for the advice. I actually started a thread in the 9th gen section to try to get a visual aid on the shifter, cables, and cable bracket

The matrix shifter is way different due to the way it is mounted more on the dash rather the center console. So this is why it had a different part number. What I would like to know is if someone with a 9th gen can post up some dimensions of the shifter base for the 6 speed.

thread revival...

So finally I believe I have this solved. I realize most people here won't ever need this information, however to the OP,

From what we learned from the 8th gen guys. The 2000-05 Celica shifter would bolt into our car, which is great since this Celica also was offered with the C60. So after sourcing a 6-speed shifter for $65, I got it yesterday and test fitted it.

Below is my old next to the Celica shifter.

Unfortunately, the junk yard I got it from said they had already cut the cables, so I still have to source them. I tested the shifter in the car, it sits much lower which just looks awesome! So I believe once I get the cables this should fix all the issues.

Transmission was installed fine, celica shifter installed fine (all though might not of needed it). The issue was the travel for the shifter cables. I couldn't get into reverse and 5th and 6th were very tight. I ended up modifying the bracket (picture below) to make up the travel length. The picture shows the finished product. Once heated with a torch, it can be bent over about 1/4". A little bend goes a long way. This bracket is originally more "L" shaped. I actually bent it about 1/2" to start and it was too far. So had to go back about 1/4". Then it was perfect.
