Camry Not Starting Single Click

I have a 2004 Camry LE v6. Ran the car most of Saturday and stopped over at in-laws house. Car would not start when we were ready to leave. The dash lights illuminated and headlights worked fine. But car would not crank. A single click could be heard from the starter solenoid. Tested battery and it had 14 volts. Also even tried a jump from another car and car still would not start.

Today on Sunday went back and tried to start the car and without doing anything the car started right up and ran just fine. No check engine lights or battery lights came on.

Given the car is almost 15 years old I suspect the solenoid contacts on the original starter are worn and the starter needs to be replaced.

Thoughts on this behavior?

Yeah, good advice on both posts above.

In the old days, you could take the contacts on the starter solenoid after releasing the hold down bolts smack em in, rotate and voila; new contacts. Unsure whether this would apply to your contacts on the solenoid though.

Remanufactured=all wearing parts replaced.
Rebuilt=get it going and kick it out the door.

Choice is yours.

Smacking it lightly while holding ignition in crank will work in a pinch.

SO what it is, and it's very common in these otherwise bullet proof Nippon-Denso starters, the contacts in the solenoid. What is happening, is the solenoid plunger is slamming down, but there is not enough of the contacts left to make contact to the motor. It will do this inconsistently as sometimes it may come down in a different position and make contact. Very easy fix, and a much better choice than getting a rebuilt/remanufactured as the motor is fine, just the contacts need attention.

for the benefit of toyotacamrysienna, who it appears, might have misunderstood my response, i will spell it out a bit more:
the contacts and plunger for a denso starter are about 10 to 15 bucks on ebay...and that's all that's needed to fix this particular problem.
