My girlfriend has an 02 camry and she hates not having autolamps. Can I add them in by changing the switch?

get a haynes or fsm and see all the components involved in that circuit and then decide. until then, tell her to just leave the headlights on all the time. they go off when you turn off the engine automatically and they make you more visible than the drl's anyways.

I don’t think the Gen5 (unsure on Gen5.5) has auto headlights. They have automatic daylight unless you switch the toggle to off.

Both my 2004s (SE MT and XLE V6 AT) does NOT have automatic headlights . Both have automatic daylight unless I turn the stalk to off.

Personally I hate forced auto headlights. I like the abilities to control my lights.

On my 02 it only had DRL on the stalk. I know if you are already wired for fogs you can replace the stalk with one that has the fog switch P&P and the fogs work just fine. Albeit with out the indicator on the dash. Even if you can find the switch with Auto you will still need the light sensor for in the dash. On mine there is just a plug for the hole in the dash. I just did a quick search and did not even see a switch with auto for an 02.
Mines is the same way

It's interesting. Maybe the US models they got rid of the auto headlights for the 02-06...they also got rid of the rear 'burn out lamp indicator' on the Gen5 too...

both of my u.s. vin 06's had/have the auto headlights/drl too. i'm pretty sure my other 06 (also u.s. vin) had the bulb out indicator as i had to replace the 3rd brake light to make it go off several years back but i could be mistaken.

Maybe it was a Gen5.5 thing with auto headlights?

I didn't have no brunt out lamp indicator on both of my 2004's...more so you would think a loaded XLE would have it if it had option to though.

kingdom, sure might have been a mid gen thang..dunno...
as far as why toyota configures such unusual trim combos, that one baffles me too. yes, you'da thunk an xle wudda had everything. in the gen 3 days, that's pretty much what the XLE meant, xtra stuff..
my new to me 06 with leather seats is an LE, just like my previous cloth one was, but this one also has side air bags and my other LE didn't. my other LE had lighted vanity mirrors and my current one don't. go figure.

fyi, page 9 of the owner's manual for the gen5 refs a "Tail light indicator light" on the cluster. iirc, that's the one that lights up if the 3rd brake light is out.

I thought all LE did not have lighted vanity? Only XLE had? It's not sunroof opt as my 2004 4 Cyl w/ moonroof does not have the lighted mirror. Not that it mattered since the Gen5 lighted mirror option was terrible, the doors keeps breaking. Not sure if it's the same desig on the Gen5.5 (XLE)

I'll check on that because I've had my high mount bulb removed and I didn't have an indicator in my 2004 XLE V6.

So weird. Was your LE one the same design as the XLE one? I wonder if Toyota revised the light in the Gen5.5 as the vanity ones in the 2004 XLE suck so bad.

Wait, you got the same year ones? So two LE 2006...one with leather and one without, but one had lighted mirrors and other didnt?

Hows the 'new' 06? Burning any oil? My 04 is starting to burn 1.5QT in about 1300-1500 miles...

yep, 2 of the same cars. and the leather one don't have the lighted mirrors..weird stuff going over at that toyota plant.
nah, none of my toys ever burned any oil including the 2 gen 3's, a gen1 sienna, a gen 4, 2 gen 5.5's, and 2 corollas (1.8 and 1.6).
the manual sez 1 qt in 600 miles is normal but that doesn't sound correct to me. i'd be alarmed if i had to add 1 qt between 5k oci's. i guess God's blessed me in my cars so far going by what i see others posting.

It could be. Only way to check is to do that. Although trying to get that senor in there and wiring might be a pita
