Hey all,

Where did you mount your cellphone? Wife has a iPhone 7 Plus and uses Waze all the time for directions. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

downside of vent clip is that it blocks the vent and when phone is placed on it ..phone is always in contact with the trim..
Got bit by it .. over a period of time...the contact area looks dull compared to rest of the trim..

I use a proclip model that fits just to the right of the steering wheel. It mounts a little out from the vent. These are choices from Proclip for the mount. You then choose the phone holder that you attach to the mount. I have an adjustable mount that has worked for my last three phones. http://www.proclipusa.com/dashboard-mounts/vehicle/toyota/highlander/2016.cmsv

I have tried a couple different vent clip models. Never had one hold well without constant adjustment.

Vent clips do need constant adjustments and sometimes fall off but you might as well get something cheap that you can take with you when you travel. If you go someplace like California, now, you can't even hold your smartphone when you're driving a rental so you need something portable as well as whatever you choose to use as your main vehicle mount.

I just received a Koomus CD-Eco Universal holder. It fits firmly in the cd slot which we never use anymore. It just slides in and out if you need to use the cd player. There is no assembly just put it in the cd slot and you're done. It holds the phone firmly and works horizontal and vertical as well as being able to pivot up down and side to side. The phone sits above the slot and even in the horizontal position doesn't block the clock. It does block the orange passenger air bag message which to me makes it worth buying just for that.

The photo is just off the website not on a Highlander but I'm sure you will get the idea.

I tried several and ended up with this:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01EIYDX0M/ref=pe_386430_126088100_TE_item

Extra long arm windshield suction mount.
I put mine on the far left side of the windshield, and it extends the mount right next to the steering wheel.
The suction isn't those cheap plastic ones, even without the suction knob switched on, the material itself is VERY VERY sticky (not the same as the ones that leaves residues). It took me some effort to remove it in order to move it to a better position.

I still like the vent clips, also. It's keeps the display as close to your line of sight as possible and they keep your hands close to the steering wheel. And, they are cheap. Sometimes they get loose but they are easy to put back in place.

Jamesk, I put the plastic plate just far enough back that there was maybe an 1/8 to 1/4" sticking out from underneath. you have to bend the goose neck a lot and have the lever in the back. I put my hand/fingers under the base that has the suction cup and pushed pretty damn hard to get it level with the base. I also mounted it as far left as I could. It took 5-10 minutes of finagling it to get it to lock. But it has stayed on since I installed Friday (watch its lying on the shelf when I leave work LOL)
