Just bought my wife a Superwhite 2009 SE-V6 w/ NAV.
While I like the door locking when taken out of park feature I don't want it to unlock when it goes back into park.
I was able to find a thread this summer to change this feature on an '08 Highlander I rented but can't find the info anymore or remember what I did.
Anyone change this themselves? Thanks for your help and yes I tried SEARCH for several hours with no results.:D

I don't think there is a way to change it to not unlock when in park...but i remember seeing something in the owners manual. There are two modes Locking linked with shift position, and locking linked with vehicle speed (20kmh /12 mph)

To change it to the shift position:
1. Close all doors and turn Ignition to ON (Make sure shifter is in P)
2. Within 10 seconds of setting it to ON, press and hold the drivers side power door lock switch in the lock position for 5 seconds then let go.
3. You will know it worked cause doors will lock then unlock.

To change to the speed linked:
1. Close all doors and turn Ignition to ON (Make sure shifter now set to N)
2. Within 10 seconds of setting it to ON, press and hold the drivers side power door lock switch in the lock position for 5 seconds then let go.
3. You will know it worked cause doors will lock then unlock.

Now i ma not sure if having it speed linked will keep the doors locked when you put the car into P, its worth a shot though!

Just remembered and it worked. Guess those brain cells got resurected.
Car in park turn key to on without starting it and listen for the chimes.
After the first one of five total, push the unlock button and hold until
last chime then release. Locks cycle to confirm.
Did it this morning and now the doors stay locked when put into park.
The manual says nothing but what can be customized at the dealer.:thumbsdow
I'm sure there are other things that can be done this way so maybe there should be a sticky with these tips?:chug:
Just noticed. One person says they held the LOCK button while the other says they held the UNLOCK button. Does it matter or did someone have a typo?

OK, try this after the programming:

Stop the car with the engine running, and gear in "D", then open any door, close all doors, and drive off, go more than 15 mph, the doors should lock.

If not, repeat step 1 and 2.

I've got a MT in my SE I4. I read the owner's manual about how to change these settings with a MT, but haven't been successful in getting it to work. Anyone know exactly what the manual means by "neutral" with the MT? I tried it between gears "neutral" with and without the clutch engaged with no luck. If anyone has changed these settings with a MT, without having to take it to the dealer, please post your technique.

Try it with the parking brake engaged, maybe?

Got it to work! Here you go MT folks...

1. Gear shift lever between gears (neutral)
2. Clutch pedal pressed
3. Brake pedal pressed (because of step 4, which is the only variable I hadn't tried and is most likely why it worked)
4. Parking brake OFF

Follow instructions on pg 43 of owner's manual for cycling of key and lock/unlock button for function set.

One more thing... I tried to change both settings and found that I had to start the car and drive around a bit between each one. That is, I tried to change the driver's side/all doors lock function and then the speed sensative auto-lock function one after the other, and it wouldn't let me. So I drove around the parking lot and then tried the other function and it did. YMMV.
