Changing the starter killed the clutch?

Personal car/truck parts changer here, that's my level. RnR'd the starter, cranked it up and the clutch was soft and wouldn't go into gear. 95 Tacoma 4wd. What the hell did I do? Or is it the 289k miles on it catching up to me.

Welcome to Toyota Nation.
I can't see how that would do anything to the clutch, probably the age/mileage.

Have you inspected the clutch master cylinder, flex line, or slave cylinder? Have you pilled back the rubber boots to see if there are any leaks? Be careful of where you git yer parts from as even some of the new ones don't work correctly out of the box. You can also rebuild the master and slave units if their bores aren't corroded. Yer dealership should have the rebuild kits. I'm not sure if RockAuto.com has them or not. ;)
