A couple of years ago my fuel pump failed while I was on vacation. I went to the local repair shop and found out that my corolla was one of the few actually manufactured in Japan. So, instead of a cheap fuel pump, mine cost around $900 and took 2 days to find (toyota reimbursed me since I had less that 60k miles at the time!). They didn't supply a new o-ring with the pump and the shop just reused the old one. Well, a couple of days later my check engine light comes on. I checked my codes and got the following, p0441 0455 and 0456. Point to some EVAP issue. I and the shop assumed it was probably the fuel pump o-ring. Anyway, it still runs perfectly and gas mileage isn't affected at all so since my emission wasn't due I just let it ride. Well, now that it's coming time for my emissions I want to get it fixed. Plus the light is annoying and can mask other issues though I've check the codes again and they are the same. I got new o-ring and plan on putting that in this weekend. Just for fun I replaced the gas cap as well but it made no difference as I sorta expected. Just curious if I need to apply anything to the o-ring before I install it so it seals well? Also, any other suggestions as to what I should check as well? I'm leaning toward the o-ring since that light came on right after the fuel pump change though there is the possibility it's a coincidence. As it is the light comes on for a few days then goes off for a few days. It's been cycling like this since the fuel pump change.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any input!
thanks!
