It's new, take it back!

 

Happens all the time, the dealer is supposed to clear the DTCs (codes) created during the manufacturing process, but they miss things, on mine they left DTC's, did not calibrate the steering angle sensor, left the tires at over 50 psi.

 

This alert came 2 days prior to my purchase

????? Please explain.

 

Error codes are stored in ECM under certain date, TedL.
OP, take it back to dealer, get loaner car, let them have it. If you still under warranty, what should be the case, unless you Uber tons of miles on it.

 

I understand stored codes, freeze frame data, etc.

"Alert came", to me, means showing up on the display. If it's not showing, it's not an "alert". To my way of speaking/interpreting, anyway. Perhaps it's an ESL thing.

 

Probably battery drain during QA hold and shipping. Let then figure it out and have them document the exact error code and what they did to fix it. If 12v battery affected, have load tested document results.

RAV4 XLE Hybrid 2022

Just clear the messages, these are leftover codes from the manufacturing process that the dealer was supposed to clear prior to delivery.

 

I have had the same "Rav4 check engine a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected" on my 2020 Rav4. My vehicle was 2 months out of warranty. It wasn't cheap to get this repaired. I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement Center 800-331-4331 and explained the issues and told them according to my searches other Rav4 have had this same issue. They said no one has reported it us so there is No recall Yet. Please Report your Rav4 check engine a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected" issues to Toyota Brand Engagement Center at 800-331-4331. If they get enough people to report this they will issue a Recall and we may be able to get reimbursed for the repairs.

I have this light came on my 2022 highlander today. Has anyone got any updates on fixes?

 

I have a new Rav 4, it's 5 months old so under warranty. I have the same message Rav4 check engine a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected".it's in the garage today, but they seemed not to have heard of this problem before so I'll be interested to see what happens

 

Have the same issue with my 2024 RAV4 Prime XSE. While trying to start it, I would freeze and not doo anything, started doing random beeps until it went all black and no power at all. Jumped the car using the procedure in the owners manual and it now has the check engine light "a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected". Took it to the dealership and they just questioned me on the procedure used to jump the car (also sent me a document on how not usind the proper procedure would fry the ECU). No idea id the ECU is fried. Vehicle is still under warranty, wondering what you'all resolution was?

Take it to the dealer. This is not the place to troubleshoot it. Your handle does not even indicate the year and model of your RAV.

Should be under warranty. People on the internet have no way of troubleshooting something like this. There's no codes listed, access to the vehicle itself is required as well. Follow the instructions and go to the dealer or a QUALIFIED mechanic

 

The message you see is intended for the driver/owner and is generic. There are hundreds of causes that could have triggered the warning , each with its more specific code. These codes are stored and a mechanic with the proper tools can access those codes and the manufacturer's recommended steps to pinpoint the problem.

A car I had 25 years ago had a manual consisting of 7 binders. Now it is all stored on the computer and so updated once and everyone uses the same thing. The mechanincs computer talks to the manufacturer's computer to get the equivalent of a step by step testing procedure for each code.

Check engine is a serious warning. Get thee to a person who has the right computer.
