They tell me that my computer is no good . . .

They are ordering a New One Takes about a Week.

Anyone else experience this Problem.

2006 Corolla - Computer / Ignition Coil

I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla. At about 41,000 miles the engine block cracked and the engine had to be replaced.

About 8,000 miles later the car is not turning off in the middle of driving it. The car has to be stopped, put in park, and then try to restart it. It will almost always restart - but sometimes turns right back off.

The Butler Toyota dealership in Macon, GA has not been able to figure out what is wrong with it. So far they have tried to replace the engine control computer and replace the ignition coils. The problem still exists. The check engine light comes on and stays on after the car breaks down.

I have spent more than 14 hours in the past two days waiting at the dealership.

They have not been able to figure out what is the cause.

The only thing that has been changed on the car is a remote starter was put on 3 years ago - it was put in by professionals at Circuit City. They used proper techniques of soldering the wires and wrapping them for protection. The remote starter has been disconnected while trying to determine the cause of this problem with my Corolla, the problem still exists without the remote start hooked up.

Does anyone have any suggestions what the problem may be??

Ecu

My ECU (Electronic Control Unit) shorted out on my '07 Toyota Corolla yesterday and it will cost me $1,000.00 to fix. Luckily my car wouldn't start this morning and I wasn't on the road. The shop said that the history in the ECU said the check engine light had been on for sometime. This was news to me. The check engine light came on yesterday at the same time the unit shorted out. Is anyone else having this problem?

The TSB I mentioned, (TSB EG042-07), calls for replacement of the ECU/ECM, not a reflash.

Also, be careful about getting a junkyard ECU. Apparently, to work properly, the replacement ECU has to have the car's VIN entered. Only Toyota has the computers to do this. And, my understanding is that once a VIN is entered, that module will only work with that car and can't be changed to a different VIN. (apparently to prevent changes in mileage readings on the vehicle) So, a used ECM would already have a VIN that apparently couldn't be changed, so could not have the VIN entered for your car.

I'd check with Toyota to see what they say before buying a used one.
