Hi, so as the title says I'm currently in japan, here until august studying abroad and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for any parts I should look into trying to find/get while here. i wanted to try to find an exhaust but idk how I'd get it home, thinking about maybe looking for a short shifter or tail lights too if possible; not particularly sure any other specific parts so if anyone has suggestions for what I should look for I'd greatly appreciate it! I have a 1988 ae92 gts coupe also :)

There are stores in Japan that sell interiors, wheels, engines and the like. Have to ask someone who knows the area and where the car stores are.

In Japan, the Levin is closer to the USDM ae92. They are different body styles, so might not fit. Best way to ship home, is ground shipping the larger parts and carry small parts on the plane. Check your airline to see weight limits are and costs.

edit

google search amayama also. I don’t know if they’re in Japan.

i just actually left up garage! didnt see anything for my car but gonna go again soon to pick up a set of fog lights i liked as well as look to see if I can find a muffler i could fit to my car; shipping will suck but rather take that than ebay pricing for a decent exhaust. Gonna check yahoo auctions for more things specific to my car too!

It might be worth looking on e-bay and see if there's anything there. Don't know if there's a Japanese version of Craigs list, but that might be worth looking into as well, same applies with Facebook. Or you could do a tour of the Island and look for older repair shops, as maybe someone is either hanging onto something, or knows someone that is. The big key to it all will be someone who can translate the language for you. Having looked at some JDM U tube videos, there are some people who are hanging onto older stuff, and rebuilding it. A lot of it is connections with people there (networking).

Yahoo! Japan and Croooober would be the best bets, some translation services may be required though or an intermediary.

First, I am soooooooooooooooooooo jealous! I wish I was there! I plan to move there as soon as possible and I fully intend to never come back to the states once I get there!
Craigslist does have a service there. I've used it many times. Yahoo! Japan is the best place to find anything. As long as you can read the text then you can do well. I've not used it for car parts but, for everything else it makes Evil Bay look like a trash dealer! Oh! Evil Bay IS a trash dealer! Ooopsie!

It may be a good idea to go visit some speed shops and even service garages. That's where you will find the real brains around town. Ask the people who work on cars what they like, where they get parts, who can they recommend, what about car clubs and so on. Think outside of the box.

Now, my advice is to stay there! You will regret leaving Japan and will wish you never did so. Trust me on that! Experience is a good teacher! BWAHAHAHAHA!

幸運を祈ります!
