Last October, I purchased a 2022 RAV4 Hybrid and I was told later on about the issue with the cable gate rusting and was not covered by Toyota after 30,000 miles. I received a notice from Toyota that they cover the cost of the repair for 100,000 miles or 8 years. Glad after all these year they finally stepping up pay for this faulty issue.

Same cable, connector, location and orientation to the MGR motor in the rear transaxles in Rav, Venza and Highlander so share the same potential problem.

Some times what Toyota does to keep water out, acts to keep water in.
Mid '21 production on the Rav/Ven/High and Lexus counterpart hybrids Toyota changed from a closed connector to an open type (a quick kludge fix at best) which now does not trap salt water in the fitting accelerating corrosion.....now insulated wire cableing (but not contact surfaces) is now exposed

After two years service in a rustbelt State my '21 Venza hybrid with the mid '21 updated "open" connector shows no indication of corrosion. Enough confidence that I just placed a deposit on a '23 Highlander Platinum hybrid to replace the Venza. Seems the Venza even with Limited seating isn't as friendly to my bad back like our '20 Highlander Platinum gas. Wife wasn't crazy about a second Highlander and I wasn't crazy about being limited to only one of our vehicles, but the Cypress color HiHy with caramel interior was enough to seal the deal.

That's a bit extreme, Toyota will fix any problems, unlike say Ram, I have a 15 ecodiesel that I had no idea was a Fiat, and they did what VW did emissions wise, got caught and remapped the emissions to drop the horse power, bought mine to tow my 43hp Kabota, now it can't and winters it takes 10 minutes of warming up do get to the main road, no power, it spends 6 months a year in the shop.
Toyota will fix the high voltage wire for 8 years 100,000 miles relax

Rav/Venza/Highlander hybrids share the same cable. More info on Rav and Venza forums

From the Rav4 forum -

"Toyota Canada is launching a warranty enhancement for RAV4 Hybrid vehicles from model years 2019 through 2022 up to 8 years. This warranty enhancement provides coverage for the underfloor HV wiring harness and rear-wheel-drive motor cable of certain RAV4 vehicles.

Note, however, that the 2023 model year RAV4 hybrids will not have this warranty extension, as Toyota claims to have already replaced the high-tension cable at the factory. These models will therefore retain the basic warranty of 3 years/60,000 kilometers.

Really curious to see what they've done at the factory. Must be something that is not visible from the outside. I would assume they've done the same thing to 2023 Venza."

It now also applies to "certain 2020-2022 model year Highlander H (AWD only)" as of a Toyota mailing I recieved around August 15, 2023.
My original post was written in June when I still owned a '21 Venza hybrid and previously a '20 Rav4 hybrid. Cable craze didn't bother me too much so I traded the Venza for a '23 HiHy I crawled under it to examine the "updated" cable. So now I can compare. The basic design is unchanged and physically it looked the same with an open connector, but the braided RF shielding and metal used on the electrical connectors appears to be upgraded from former stamped steel and castings to stainless steel corrosion proof fittings......and no plastic splash pan under the MGR either. Hopefully no more corrosion concerns with the updated cable.

My less than 3 year old 2020 Highlander Hybrid, 50000 miles, displayed a similar message back in June. Turns out the hybrid rear wiring harness was bad. $5,200 to replace. After contacting Toyota, they contributed $1,500 and the dealer reduced their hourly labor charge to a warranty rate. Seems to me that a car that was not involved in any accident, weather situation, flooding, under three years old would not have had this issue. My previous 2008 Hybrid Highlander, was sold with 209,000 miles and is still running. No issue at all. What is going on with the quality of Toyota?
