In the owners manual, there is a list of settings that can be changed, for example, unlocking/opening drivers door opens all doors.

It says specialized equipment is needed that the dealer has.

Anyone get these settings changed? Does the dealer do it free of charge typically? How long does it take?

They are also posted in the Mods/Maint sticky

Customizable settings

I had the Auto Headlight off setting changed from 30 seconds to OFF and changed the remote fob buttons to One press opens all doors.

My dealer does one change free.

As it mentioned in the owners manual by Toyota and requires the dealer to do it, you might have to bargin as some want to charge you for the service. I made it part of PreDelivery.

The fun one to get a dealer to do is to turn off the passenger seat belt warning. Some will and some won't even though it states you can in the owners manual and there is no law stating you must have it in the US

The seat belt reminder buzzer for the front passenger can be cancelled. However, the legally mandated
minimum operation of the buzzer cannot be cancelled
Buzzer reminder cancel mode can be set using an intelligent tester or Techstream*. For details, see the
2008 HIGHLANDER Repair Manual (Pub. No. RM06J0U).

You can change your setting to unlock all doors with one touch by holding down the Unlock, Lock and Trunk Button simultaneously until you hear two beeps. Refer to your manual it does not require dealer customization.
ive try this but in my case its not working.i only heard one beep and only the trunk and front driver side door is open.i let it lock again and tried the one touch unlocking still only one door can be open.

OBDII tester.... isn't that the same tester you can borrow from places like Pep Boys/Auto-Zone (forget which one has them.. one does, one doesn't) to diagnose a problem with your car?? I used it to diagnose a problem with the engine light going on in my Sienna... tests pointed to some sensor for the gas/air control... since there were 3 sensors and folks on forums would basically start replacing them until the engine lite went off... all I did to fix to problem was put in a few bottles of engine cleaner for several tanks... it cleaned up the sensor and the engine lite went off and has stayed off..

If this is the same tester used to set options... then can't we just go to pep Boys/Auto-Zone and set them ourselves?

Nope..The Toyota test has features to change the codes that a Pep Boy tester doesn't. Toyota refers to their test as "Intelligent tester"

I tried following tip and it worked in my 2013 Toyota highlander. Now when I hold the handle of driver side, it will open all doors. Thanks for putting it out there.

to clarify, you CANNOT control your windows or sunroof from your SmartKey Fob...

Took me several tries, but I finally got my Seatbelt Chime turned off...

"Took me several tries, but I finally got my Seatbelt Chime turned off..."

How did you do that?
Took several dealer trips to find a service manager who would do it...

Or you can buy one of these units

Bought a Chinese piece of software "tech illusion" on eBay with cable for 35 bucks and used my Bluetooth odbc adaptor that I use for " torque pro" and easily changed the seat belt chimes to off, amongst other little things.

Simply Installed the software on an old 32 bit windows XP laptop usb setup and it works just like the real Toyota diagnostic software. But be really careful! It's really powerful stuff and can do almost everything that's allowable. Found it over on the tundra forum.

Surprised you guys haven,t indulged yet! Yes, it costs a total of about 70 bucks, but considering what a dealer charges and what they lie about its really cheap! And Its always better to do for yourself than paying bucks to a stealer IMHO.

oh we've known about it, they are typically sold by shady over sea's retailers on ebay and not only can you brick your ECU, but keeping the software current is tough...now that it's set like I want it, I won't change settings anymore anyways..

I'm still pissed you can't change the keyfob buttons to automatically roll down the windows and sunroof..

Guess you're right for the masses

The software is likely pirated or older Toyota software (several versions back) to be sure. Don't know how you would "brick" and ECU, but guess its been done by someone somewhere.

However, Many, Many people have used successfully, including me.

But as you elude to "a little knowledge in the hands of a fool is a dangerous thing" to be sure.

Works well for me (and the other Toyota users) with no problems and to us its worth the small investment and time to learn.

cheers

Don't use that link unless you live in Canada! I bought one for $29.88 including shipping but couldn't complete the order on the first try. They wanted a Province and there was no provision for a State. I looked closely at the link and realized it was ebay.ca. Removed the CA and tried again so here is a workable link for U.S. residents:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro.../i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=toyota+software&_nkwusc=totyota+software&_rdc=1

Delivery is promised in 3-4 weeks from China. The Vendor gets excellent marks from Ebay.

I bought my OBDII ELM327 Code Scanner software from China a couple of years back for $3.99 and it has worked flawlessly on 4 different vehicles so far.
