4-AF is a carburated engine.

4-AFE has fuel injection.

You can tell the difference by the air intake. If it is round, you have a carb.

problem only after the engine is warmed up. Sound like it mis firing. This only occurs when the engine
is under load and not in park. The mechanic say it needs a carb but I want to make sure it is not that
first by checking timing and other things. It has about 178K miles on it. Not sure how long the carb's
work on this baby's.

Mine does the same thing. My first thought is the idle needs to be turned up. Or the carb needs rebuilt, I for one will not rebuild a carb, too much work. I did however clean it yesterday and I hope that will calm it down some... I don't touch carbs so I would like to turn up the idle some to see if that helps but I don't know how.

I got about 500 km out of a tank comming home from windsor on the hwy this weekend with an air filter that is old as all hell.. needs to be replace. Plus my headlights were up.

 

I got 33.1mpg on my first trip with my carbed AE92. It had an ancient air filter, 1+ year old gas, old oil, old spark plugs, low tire pressure, one headlight stuck open, etc.
