Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a corolla but i dont know much about them. What is the difference between The CE, LE, and the S? is it engine differences or is it like body differences? Thanks.

so basically I can still get a CE and have the same speed. I plan on getting a body kit for it so should i just buy the cheaper one. because i'm still going to change out the lights. but i dont want a perfectly good bumper to go to waste.

Haha, if you had a CE, you'd probably have more speed seeing that you won't have side skirts and a spoiler slowing you down.

CE is base model, but it comes with almost everything standard. CD Player, A/C, power mirrors, power steering, clock, all the important stuff and accessories. Engine is the exact same, no difference there. Gauges between S and CE (and LE) are different. S has the white "sporty" guage. Besides the cool S emblem and S carpets, there isn't much of a difference.

I still prefer the XRS over my S. If you're in it for speed, you can either do a supercharged CE, LE, S or a XRS. A supercharged would own an XRS and I think it's in about the same price range. If you're looking into moding though, body kits, engine stuff, custom work, go for the CE or LE, you'll have more stuff to play with on your own.

Well, I've heard two things about turbo kits in CA. Some people say they are absolutely not legal and some say that it is legal if it passes emmision standards. Seeing that TT Supras have turbos stock, I've always been confused and don't know what resources to look them up.

If a cop ever pulls you over, he has no right to ask you to pop your hood. And if your car doesn't pass emmisions, you might need to find the friend of a friend to help you out with that. For the most part, I know that you can get it in and easily get away with it.

Assuming both are being driven by skilled drivers and equal mods, they are very close. S/C'ed comes on strong right off the line because strong low end power whereas, XRS gets the power burst after 6000 rpm to 8500 rpm, but it takes a very short while to get to 6000 rpm because of short first gear and quick revving nature of the car. So yes, it could go either way. Here is a video of a 03 s/c'ed Matrix XR 5 speed vs 04 Matrix XRS 6 speed with equal mods and equal drivers . The XRS has a transmission problem and the second gear synchro does not let him shift at redline so he messed up a few runs.

The 03-04 supercharger WILL NOT fit the 2005. The throttlebody is different and the fuel map is way off. This is a huge topic and everyone who has contacted Toyota/TRD about the s/c gets the same answer... "there are no plans for a 2005 s/c". If you want boost its going to have to be a turbo setup.

My mistake, I was wrong about the supercharger.

As for turbo being legal. It must pass emissions. If a car comes stock with turbo, it passes emmissions. Just as you must run 7 or under PSI with a Corolla supercharger to be legal in CA, there are certain legal rules that you need to go by.

The 1.8L Supercharger Kit includes the following main components: Eaton supercharger with integrated intake manifold and an extra injector, 160 degree thermostat to replace the 180 degree original thermostat, a supercharger ECU, and all the necessary hardware needed for installation. The stock air filter housing is retained, and all emission related components including the throttle-body are transferred to the new intake manifold. A new air inlet tube assembly is provided to connect the air filter housing to the throttle-body. No changes are made to the stock ignition system. Boost is limited to 7.5 psi. The supercharger pulley diameter is 2.4" using the stock crankshaft pulley.

That's in CA anyways.

Do the turbo kits from Turbokits.com have carb stickers? Look at that site again http://turbo-kits.com/turbo_kits_faqs.html

So basically, I would need to meet the requirements that NRM said? Also sure cars come with them stock, but isnt it like how its illegal in CALIFORNIA to have an intake without a carb sticker? like turbo.... w/o carb sticker?
