Hello,
I recently had to take my battery out and when I put it back in, the display states "No map DVD. Please insert map DVD". Nothing related to the radio works and I have the Map DVD however the radio will not load. I've tried putting it in but it just will not load it. I've removed and put the fuse back in but still no luck. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? any help is greatly appreciated.

So basically based on the video, you disconnect the ground on the battery. Drain all residual battery power from the system by stepping on/pumping the brake for 10 times or more. Reconnect the battery ground and start the vehicle back up. Yer radio should be working now or you might have to load the map DVD fer programming. ;)

I got this done for my 07 rav4 3.5. Tried removing the fuse, it didn't work. I had to turn the radio upside down to get it working.

1.) Remove the panels and get the setup out.
2.) Insert the DVD, when it starts reading switch off the vehicle and remove the key.
3.) Get the setup out of the mound and turn it upside down. (I got this idea from the other post above)
4.) Now put the key and let it run if it rejected the disk, reenter.
5.) It will start loading the Disk. Now if you have set up a password/code it will request that. Code could be the last 3 digits of your VIN or something you have setup. In my case, it happened to be some 3 digits from a common password I used to have. You have max 8 tries to enter the password.

I had the same problem after the battery was out for a while. The existing DVD was delaminated after being in a hot dash for a few years, so when a few reboots didn't do it I went with the cheapest solution. I bought a more current map DVD on eBay for $13 and once I inserted it the system started up and I was good to go. (Took a few minutes to find the GPS satellites, and I had to reprogram the station presets.)

I tried the method below and it totally fixed my nav dvd problem in 2009 Hybrid Camry!

I know this post is old but I can share my solution to this frustrating situation of the map DVD clicking when inserting and nothing loading.

SUMMARY SOLUTION - what I did was to use a can of compressed air to fix and hold upside down. Use at your own discretion and risk.

Even though this is an old post I am going to add my experience. I have a 2010 Highlander Limited with Navigation. It uses the maps disc from Toyota. Apparently over time and not necessarily a long time, there is a nylon gear in the unit which will not allow the disc to start spinning properly to load once the disc is ejected and put back in. The disc is needed running in the slot for the navigation to work. If the disc is missing or not able to be loaded properly then the navigation will not work. The proper loading of the disc apparently is part of the anti-theft system as well. If the navigation doesn't work but your radio and back-up camera works then the radio has not entered the anti-theft mode which happens when there is no longer power to the radio/nav unit. You know that happens when the entire head unit is not working at all - no radio, no back up camera, and can't get into any control, or menu screens. All you can do (in my case) is open/close the screen to access the navigation DVD slot. Like this OP says, he ejected the Navi DVD and now when he puts it back in, the unit grabs the DVD like it should but when it goes into the slot and should be loading all he can hear is a clicking noise like it is trying to load - read back about the nylon gear which has stripped at least a tooth or two. Mine was doing this.
So, in my case, I searched online and read that some have fixed this problem by 'thumping - tapping - slapping - beating' on the deck while the disc is clicking. This probably is best done by removing the trim and 4 bolts holding the unit in place then, without removing any wires (remember about removing power will trigger the anti-theft feature), hit, thump, tap, etc the unit while it is clicking. This may allow the unit to have that stripped gear grab the next tooth and begin to load properly. I did this with no luck while others had luck.
So, somewhere online i read where someone had some luck with compressed air in a can so i gave that a try. I had a can already in the garage so I started with that. It was your regular can of compressed air and had a 5-6 inch red tube. Holding the can upright as the DVD was clicking I inserted the red tube and blasted the air full trigger in the DVD slit back and forth. Did this several times all while the DVD was clicking away with no luck. The can was not full so only after 5-6 tries it ran out. Keep in mind that because the red tube was so long that I was able to keep the can upright which only blows air from the top and not the liquid propellant that is at the bottom of the can.
Since my air ran out I went to Walmart to get another can. The ones there only come with a about an inch and a half tube but I bought it anyway knowing I had a longer tube at home. This is relevant because the longer tube allows it to be inserted in the DVD opening while the screen is horizontal and the can stays upright but while using the short tube you have to hold the compressed air can upside down which means the liquid propellant will come out of the tube. While the compressed air is dry and warm while using the long tube and holding the can upright, what comes out with the can upside down is wet and very very cold and has substance. Since my long red tube at home wouldn't fit the new can I said what the hec and blasted away with the can upside down, while the DVD was clicking, going back and forth just like before, except this time the DVD quit clicking and the DVD sounded like it was loading.
It didn't load but the clicking stopped. The screen finally closed on its own but didn't load information. The screen stayed the same. I figured that the extreme cold easily could have literally frozen something and needed a few minutes to 'thaw' out. After about 2 minutes, with much trepidation, I pressed the open/close button on the frame and the screen opened and the DVD ejected. The DVD was still very very cold to the touch and has frost on it. I wiped off the frost and gave the DVD about a minute or so to get to the outside temp. During this time, the deck itself I'm sure began to 'thaw' out also.
I inserted the now warmed back up DVD and no clicking. The screen door closed and DVD started loading and the screen showed the loading progress. Once it was loaded and the deck reset itself, the Toyota logo came up and the navigation showed the map of my house/street, the radio worked, the back camera worked, and all functions were restored.

Hi all- One random day, I took out the cd from my 2010 Sienna cd player and the map dvd popped out and has not ever gone back in (click click click click). I am now in the throes of trying to find a solution to the Please Insert Map DVD Nav crisis. Thanks for all your solutions- I've tried a bunch of the "free" ones...now on to the expensive ones :(

This is kinda old, but I downloaded the DVD here DVD Navigation Map North America U 91 2009 Toyota 4 Runner 86271 73011464210 1420 Data Ver 09 1. ISO. 7z : Toyota : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive Burned it to a DL DVD And got around my load error by using a scorecard from golf to push the DVD into the player. The reason the scorecard worked and nothing else did was because it pushed it from the top, bottom, and both sides at once. Any piece of paper that is rigid and folds around the DVD (like this (|), but horizontal) would work. Make sure you burn the DVD with an actual burner software as Windows will just burn the ISO to the disc but not actually create it like an actual DVD would be imaged.

Same exact thing happened to me the other day. Left my negative post off all night git up next morning same thing. Nothing was working. So I git in Sequoia late yesterday. So I set there pushing the buttons. It was reading no DVD. SO finally it open. Dvd came out I kept pushing it back in then finally it closed. Then it started loading so everything is working like it us supposed to. 😁

New to this thread. TYIA for any help!
'08 Sequoia with JBL system.
Few months ago, when rarely switching out cds in 4-disk player, I had the nav screen/DVD slot stuck closed. Lived with it for awhile, as everything else worked.
And now, as I played with the "load/unload CDs" button, the door started to open (to my surprise!)...but somehow jammed at about 2 inches open. Now NOTHING works, only message on semi-open screen reads NO DVD PLEASE INSERT MAP DVD.

Tried battery disconnect couple times but no movement. Only sound of motor attempting to open or close the door.
Desperately want to use my radio and backup camera but can't afford to have it repaired/replaced by a professional.
Can anyone help a mediocre tech-friendly Toyota owner here?

UPDATE: rossja04 Thanks for your suggestion. Got the DVD to eject and now the door opens/closes when I press the "insert dvd" button.
Unfortunately the (outdated) map DVD will not stay inserted in slot and I cannot operate anything at all on head unit. No radio, CDs, backup camera, etc.
Tried disconnecting negative cable battery to see if system can reset itself, but nothing.
Anybody have the solution other than replacing unit with Carplay?
TYIA!
