do you leave your DRL on all the time?

i'm surprised Toyota gives us the option to turn that off, isn't it a mandatory thing now for newer cars to have DRL on? the other cars we have all have them on by default.

My last car had full time DRLs, no option to turn off. HL has off option, but I leave them on. Contrary to what one may think...DRLs are a "safety feature".

btw...gotta be reason for off option, but no idea what.?

I leave mine on all the time.
The only time I turn it off is when I have the engine running in the parking lot waiting for the wife, so that others won't wait on me thinking I'm ready to leave.

With the non-LED's, the DRL will eventually turn the bulb brownish yellow prematurely.

I leave them on 24/7, in fact I went out of my way to divert them to my fog-lights when I retrofitted my headlight with HID's.

but I'm sure you could pull a fuse and turn them off
Not that simple now-a-days. They are on the high beam circuit which uses mosfets not relays, its a computer controlled PWM signal. You have to change a setting in the software. The pull a fuse trick ended with the first gen HL in 07.

^ Same response...armed security guards want a clear view of the vehicle before it is next to them. If you turn your lights to just parking lights, you'll be fine, but if you go all the way off, then the darn DRLs turn on and still inhibit their ability to see you. Otherwise, DRLs are a bit of a safety enhancer during daylight driving.

I have been driving with switched on headlights 24/7 since 1975, even before DRL's were a feature/option/law. In high school my friend's dad was an executive at the local utility company, BC Hydro, and he was also a car guy. He told me that his company did a long term experiment in partnership with an insurance company to see if there is any safety benefit with headlights switched on during the daytime. BC Hydro equipped their entire fleet of trucks and cars with DRL's and sure enough their claims rate went down!

Back in the day when I drove with headlights on it also meant every other light (other than interior dome) was also activated. Today, the way DRL's are wired only the front lights are on. In the case of the HL, the high beams are switched on at 1/2 power. For all practical reasons the DRL's are totally unobtrusive. There is something to gain and nothing to lose so I never understand the people who find themselves to be 'not a fan'. To each his own.

Of course, I am also one who notices and scratches my head when I see people using intermittent wipers when driving in torrential rain. :)

I also noticed with my own driving with cars with, and without DRL. I noticed more close calls with DRL off versus DRL on. This is my observation for the last decade at least. Most cars I drive have DRL or the ability to turn on/off DRL. For the cars that don't have DRL, I switched on the high beam as well during daylight.
