I have a 2011 se and my side doors pop open like they get stuck the dealer says that it is normal for this car. Is this true.

Do you mean they open but don't retract when you open them from the handle? Do they emit a long beep? I've had that happen to me when people tried to open the side doors like regular doors without the mechanical assist. I tell them to just pull out on the handle but not pull back on it at the same time. That's how I fixed my problem.

2 weeks in to ownership, I've been waiting to hear this but so far, I use the remote or buttons to open the sliders and if I do open them manually, I just pull out on the handle and don't try to move it. So far so good.

I'm guessing it's some kind of safety feature so the passengers won't get hurt from sudden door openings. I guess we'll just have to use the fob, overhead buttons or just be more careful when opening the doors.

After playing with it a bit, I've noticed I can make it pop by yanking on the door when opening it or opening with with the key fob/button why my van is parked on a medium or greater sized hill or steep driveway.

It's normal only in the sense this is a known defect for which Toyota doesn't have a fix yet. A service bulletin was issued in late 2010 on this issue that says to contact Toyota for updates on when they will have a fix.

Document it with your dealer and/or Toyota at 800-331-4331. The more who complain, perhaps Toyota will issue a fix. The problem has to do with an electrical timing delay. If you hold the handle until the door starts to move, no pop. If you pull and release quickly, it makes the popping noise.

I have read here and on other forums about the issues with the sliding doors on 2011 Sienna's. After several months of trying to diagnose what is actually happening with the doors I have determind that it has nothing to do with how quickly or slowly the door handles are used. I have made the doors (both sides) on our 2011 limited fail in all five possible ways to open them. 1. outer handle, 2. inner handle, 3. buttom on B-pillar, 4.button on overhead console, 5. button on key fob. I have had it to the dealer 4 times, have had both door ECU's replaced and an infinite amount of adjustments made. I am convinced that this is just due to a crap design and nothing else. Being a previous Odyssey owner that also had power sliding doors I don't see how Toyota cannot figure this out. In six years of the Honda I know for fact that the door only failed to open two times and one was due to excessive ice build up on the outside of the door. The Sienna is going back to the dealer on Tuesday and I told them I will not take it back until Toyota assures me that it is fixed. :headbang:
Has anyone had a successful soloution form their dealer?

I have a 2011 Sienna SE and have the same issue. Brought the TSB to my Toyota dealer last week as part of the 15,000 mile service (tire rotation) and told them about the issues I've been having with both doors. They dealership ordered the parts without any issues or drama. Still awaiting the parts and hopefully this fixes the sliding doors from popping and getting stuck.

Just today, My doors started popping more appropriately like exploding sound. I can feel the vibrations even while sitting on the leather seat. The sound is so loud it is scaring me to death. This sound happens using buttons as well as door handles (even with delayed release). The car currently is at the dealership.

My car has 2000 miles and I am very disappointed about this quality of Toyota.

Can people let me know as to how many got it repaired and are successful. Thanks

This is really disappointing...

We had our door motors replaced in October and they just started popping again. Lovely. Plus the doors are rattling like a summanabitch probably from where they were taken apart and put back together. Starting to think a minivan is more trouble than it's worth with all these parts to break.

Daniel, I know you are very happy with Honda odyssey. You are lucky...

I went to the dealerships so many times. I had rattling noise issues from the rear of the car, now popping noise (sorry, exploding sound) from the doors whose vibration can be felt thru' the well cushined leather seats. According to Skinny2, these sounds come back after 6 months :headbang:

Where is Toyota going with this quality? I am losing confidence in them. I do not want anymore head aches....

Thanks

We are still happy with our Venza and Tundra, and the Sienna was great, too. With our Sienna the doors didn't pop when we used the remote. When we used the door handles, there was no popping if we held the handle until the door started to move. If we pulled and released the handle like you normally would, then the door popped. It's a shame about the reports that the pop comes back 6 months after being fixed. Good luck with yours.

Thank you for the follow up on the door popping issues.

I held off on getting it done before b/c in the back of my mind, I'm wondering if they're just going to replace it with the same motor as these current batch. As a suspicion, they're just going to reoccur if they did.

I still use the remote so it's not a big issue or hold the door handle like another sec. longer.

I haven't checked but does the '12 sienna have this issue?

Actually the work was not done properly and from right side passenger door there is slight water dripping when gone thru' car wash...:headbang:

I lost my confidence completely with respect to Toyota service stations at dealerships.

Not gets fixed properly...

I personally think its harmless not sure what is the cause of it but I have a 2007 Avalon limited and it makes the same sound when I open the doors and it unlocked at the same time.
My sienna is a year old and 15,000 miles with no issues and still loving it.

Hope it works out for you.
