Driver Assist Package -- Worth It?

Hello,

Currently I am looking to purchase a 2018 Toyota Camry. Preferably, I would like the XSE v4 in black with the panoramic moonroof and driver assist package. My question is for anyone who has the driver assist package (HUD, and Birds Eye Camera). Is it ultimately worth the price? Do you find yourself actually using these features on a daily basis and benefiting from it? Furthermore, my local dealership says I would have to factory build it (6-8 weeks) which I am not not happy about.

One last side note, is it even possible to get this car with the black exterior and interior? While trying to build the car on Toyota's website, it forces me to pick a silver exterior color when selecting "Audio Package with Options" (note: I do NOT want the audio package).

First time posting a forum on here and looking forward to feedback.

Thanks!

Short answer "yes". YMMV I use the HUD every day. It has a wealth of info that can be displayed and you keep your eyes where they belong (on the road). My grandson loves the panoramic roof. The Birds Eye view is great! It can really help you in tight parking situations.

We have an XLE V6 with the panoramic roof, driver's assist package, etc.

Is it worth it? We sure do LIKE it, but it is an expensive option. Hard to say.

We have used these things every since we got the car.

Can you get it without the Entune 3.0 Premum JBL Clari fi audio package?

I don't think so. You need to talk to a dealer to find out for sure.

One thing to consider is that with the Premium audio package, you get the dynamic navigation, which actually WORKS.

Most people don't like the Entune Plus audio package with its "connected navigation".

The bottom line is my wife and I love the full bells and whistles. Is is worth it?

Hard to say.

I have the XSE V6 with everything. Originally, I didn't use much of the features or found them quite annoying. However, they do come in handy. As another poster stated, the Birds-Eye View is great in very tight spaces. Also, gives you the ability to view your distance between your car and the curb.

The Lane Departure (LDA), great to remind you when sometimes you drift out of you lane. But it goes off when you merge into another land without a turn signal. If you use your turn signal, then its not as annoying. But those rare occasions, where you have may have to go to an are full of construction (99% of all of my state), it may go off several times even though you're not moving over the line.

The last thing, that I haven't used much (thank god, I hope you dont have to either). The Pre-Collision Awareness (PCA), The auto-braking features, where the car will automatically put on the brake when your car gets too close to a potential collision. Shocking experience when it occurs. When mine went off, I was trying to park closer toward the wall in my garage. Forgot I had it...well...lets say a abrupt braking is shocking thing lol

Oh and there's the Rear Cross Traffic Awareness(RCTA), where essentially the sensors detect if there are people or cars around your vehicle when backing up. I use it every now and then, especially in very tight spots. But be aware, it may go off and give you a signal that a person maybe behind you, when in reality there may not be anyone. It picks up exhaust fumes and confuses it as a physical form..(that or it can detect ghosts..:surprise:) Overall, its great for what it's designed for. Btw this feature also uses auto-braking.

The HUD isn't a safety feature, but its fun to have. But also, it keeps your eyes on the road.

It comes down to one simple thing. You. How long are you planning to keeping the car? If for a long time, I'd jump on the extra safety features and even if you dont use it everyday. Its great to have in case of slip ups, we're humans and for that we make mistakes. ***** slightly helps resale value.

At end of the day, its up to you and if it meets your needs.

I will say that the birds-eye view is fantastic. The HUD - somewhat useful.

As to whether it's worth the cost, only you can decide. It was already on the car, and the overall price of the car was right (for me).

Edit: PS - read all the complaints about Entune and Scout on this forum. If you value the ability to navigate using the built-in screen rather than your phone, buy whatever package includes "dynamic navigation", not "connected navigation". That said, maybe the maps included with "dynamic" are just as bad as the maps included with "connected" (i.e. Scout), but at least you won't have to spend the first 5 minutes of your drive configuring your phone and the car "just right" to get Scout to work (until it crashes).

(speaking from experience, having just completed a 1500 mile journey, the first time the car has been driven somewhere I don't normally drive)
