Just wanted to chime in if you guys didn't know about this remote start/keyless entry install available for the 2017-18 corolla. The one I will be talking about is for the standard non push to start models with the H key. (H engraved in your key). They have push to start stuff too but not what I was looking into to.

I installed this today in my 2017 LE and it literally took 45 minutes and YOU DONT HAVE TO CUT A WIRE!!! It's plug and play basically and the car doesn't die when you open door like factory ones.

Remove the two screws behind steering wheel by turning wheel. Squeeze dash column cover and pop it off.

Not gonna get technical below... Fortin website has a PDF with everything you need for locations and such... Just showing you how easy this is...

Unhook a harness at ignition and hook up this harness.

Unhook a harness under fuse box and hook up this harness

Connect harness to OBD2 port. (It leaves a pigtail so you can hook up a scanner later)

Loosen a bolt somewhere and land the ground wire and retighten.

Follow the programming instructions. (Takes 1 minutes tops).

You can opt to use factory keyfob to start but since the range sucks so bad I bought the add on 2 way remote that works from like 2500 ft away. It has one plug into remote start box and a 30 second programming sequence for the remotes. If you choose to use factory keyfob to remote start you have to hook up one more thing for tpms sensor.

Since my car is an automatic you need to cut a jumper on evo-one but eBay seller had even done that for me.

Done!!! 45 min tops! I wasn't reading programming instructions well enough (cause in my head I'm smarter than them instructions...lol). Or otherwise this should be a 30 min install.

I ordered everything from eBay. Seller is a car installer so he flashes everything for you so it's ready to install.

Seller was **Redacted**

He combined shipping for me so total cost was 282$ for the unit, quick harnesses and rf remotes.

What I ordered:

Fortin EVO-ONE. (All in one remote starter)

Fortin RF642W. (Rf 2 way remotes)

THAR-ONE-TOY8. (Quick harness for Toyota Corolla)

I have installed multiple remote starts from scratch but this was so simple anyone can do it.

Any questions I don't mind helping ya out. It was so easy!!!

Welcome to TN.
As this is your first post I removed the eBay seller just to make sure you are not the eBay seller trying to self promote under the guise of a buyer. (Hope you understand)
Glad you got a GOOD remote start that does not kill the engine!!
That's what everyone wants!!!

Yeah I understand... However I am definitely not the seller.

Just wanted everyone to know you can't just order the evo-one. It must be programmed first or buy a programmer to do it yourself. This guy has it ready to go.

Regardless anyone reading this can pm me. Or just search for the harness. He's the only one with that harness on eBay currently.

Thanks for the post. Is the "2500 ft" range of the remote something that you have tested in actual use?
The website says up to 3500' but just wondering what's a "real life" range like.

thanks

Honestly I haven't tried with this one. I've only tried from about 500ft away with of course no problems.

I installed a viper 2 way years ago that claimed one mile distance and I definitely could get 4000ft with buildings in the way. It was impressive. My office was in the center of a refinery and I could start the car from my office building. Based on that I would think this one would meet it's claims. If they are saying 3500 that's clear line of site though.

For me it's the fact that you park FAR from where you need to be in CA and it gets HOT here.
Not so much for when at home,

but at work, shopping, etc...
Those places you are likely to be very far away and out of range especially because of buildings in the way.
And it's VERY nice to jump into a cool car after a long walk in the 100+ deg heat.
If you have a long walk to your car in the heat getting into a 140+ deg car just SUCKS...
I understand it's not for everyone but for many of us it's a VERY nice feature.

I'm actually in the process of making a cellular remote start for a friend.
It's almost complete, just finishing up the software and app and then it's done.
The hardware is 100% done now. And his monthly cellular fee will only be $1.99 a month and he wanted a temp probe so the car reports back the inside temp to the app as well :)

Part of me REALLY wants to do this but $280-some bucks seems steep. Granted, it seems plug and play but still. Damn. I'm already looking down the barrel of replacing the oh so fabulous Entune head unit I have due to the screen sensitivity (or rather, the loss of sensitivity) which is looking like a 100-200 dollar job in itself. Are there other options out there for less? I don't need anything for more than like 1k feet away...if that even.

*Edit: OH and would this work for a 2015 model? I saw you said a 2017-18 or so...just curious.

If the starter can remote start a car from 4000ft with line of sight range, it means it will probably be more likely to start the car at greater distances in situations where there are obstructions.

I had a long range starter in my last car that could start at 3/4 of a mile. It was great in -30 degree weather when I could leave the building I was in, press the start button, get confirmation that my car was started, and then climb into a warm car that I didn't have to defrost or scrape any ice off of when I arrived at the car near frozen from walking down a wind tunnel of a street that I was on. Even though my house has a heated garage, any car I buy now has a long range remote starter installed, just because. So, both my Rav4 and Corolla have a remote starter.

I am looking at a new 2019 Corolla Hatchback. It lists a long range remote+ toyota remote as an option, but my local distributors don't seem to know anything about it. I'm hoping I can get a genuine Toyota remote starter, but might start looking to see if there is an aftermarket plug in unit that will work, if there is not.

^ Lol maybe the 11.5 gen ones...but my 2015 S Plus does not. In fact, when I bought mine, the only Corolla with the option was a S Premium (most expensive option). Maybe they're all push button now, but I doubt an L would?

Would this work for a 2016 Scion iM automatic, turn key??
