do you guys think the ECT or Power button on the shifter makes a difference in acceleration?

There is not a difference by any appreciable amount? Why do you think people with manual transmission cars make such a big deal about shift points. Why do some people drive stock cars and get much better times than others driving the exact same car? It's all about shifting consistently at the right point to make the most use of the power band. You shift early, you lose speed. ECT makes better use of the powerband by shifting later and putting right back into the rpm where your car pulls hardest.Corsulian said:Like most things you can do with a car--I think it makes things feel faster though they're really not by any appreciable amount.
My friend and I are going to compare if any of the little things like the ECT button, a K&N filter, a clean throttle body, and a new fuel filter can actually make a difference by racing my camry against his 2002 Corolla S (we raced before without any of that stuff and he won...though we didn't actually have a finish line...and some jackass in a BMW decided he was racing as well and made it quite clear just how easily he could kick our asses).
Wait a second here? Are you actually trying to say your car is faster when you accelerate in a higher gear then when it downshifts? :disappoinCameronCamry said:I have found that it actually hurts my acceleration (top end) when I use it. I'm not big into low-end acceleration (mainly because the Camry sucks at it), but when I'm at higher speeds (60+) and it downshifts two gears so it's running in the 5,000RPM's, I have noticed that I hardly get any better acceleration than just giving it a little gas but staying in the same gear. When I let my foot off the gas to let it shift into the high 3,000s, the acceleration is much better. I'm not sure how your cars run, but the ECT button is my enemy!
I do...since my previous vehicle got 10 mpg.Gen3cruiser said:Thats because you stay in a lower gear longer, and the engine is running at higher rpm's. More gas is burned. But who drives a Camry for gas mileage?![]()
