Which transmission do I have?

U140E: 2001-2003 FWD V6
U140F: 2001-2003 AWD V6, 2001-2007 AWD I4
U241E: 2001-2007 FWD I4
U151E: 2004-2013 FWD V6
U151F: 2004-2013 AWD V6

U140E, U140F & U241E = 4-speed
U151E & U151F = 5-speed

(Will be referred to as 4-speed and 5-speed from here out)

Filters:
  • 4-speed filters are NOT compatible with the 5-speed
  • Toyota sells a screen & media filter for the 4-speeds, they cost the same.
  • Toyota does NOT sell a screen for the 5-speed, only a media filter

Media (4-speed): 35330-06010
Screen (4-speed): 35330-28010
Filter o-ring (4-speed): 90080-30077
Aftermarket media (4-speed): WIX 58618 (Comes with filter o-ring & trans pan gasket. Wrongly listed for models with 5-speed, but filter is actually for 4-speeds)
Aftermarket screen (4-speed): ATP B187 (Not a lot of info out there and no confirmed uses from this one)

Media (5-speed): 35330-08010
Filter o-ring (5-speed): 90301-32012
Aftermarket media (5-speed): WIX 58010 (Comes with filter o-ring & trans pan gasket. Correct filter for 5-speed A/T)

Pans:

- The pan is different and not compatible between the 4-speeds & 5-speeds, the pan gasket, drain plug & plug gasket is shared. The 4-speed pan is a little deeper which allows for about extra 0.5 L of oil (4L 4-speed vs 3.5L for 5-speed)

Pan (4-speed 2001-2003 AWD V6, 2001-2003 FWD I4, 2001-2007 AWD I4): 35106-28090
Pan (4-speed FWD I4 2004-2007): 35106-06010
Pan (5-speed): 35106-08010
Pan gasket: 35168-21011 (Material: Cork-rubber)
Pan magnet: 35394-08010 (4-speeds use three, 5-speed uses two)
Pan bolt: 90080-11496 (M6x1.0 bolt)
Transmission breather: 90930-03157

Pan drain plug gasket: 90430-18008 (Aluminum flat crush washer for M18x1.5 plug)
Pan drain plug: 90341-18016 (M18x1.5 10mm allen plug, can be swapped for transfer case drain plug or others)

Torque specs:
Drain plug: 36 ft-lbs
Pan bolt: 67 in-lbs
Filter bolt: 8 ft-lbs / 96 in-lbs

Fill plugs:
Toyota 90341-A0002 (24mm hex plug)
Kia K995111800 / MFU9A17121 (24mm hex plug)

Magnetic plugs:
Cummins 3924147 (17mm head, Running it on my Highlander & 08 RX350)
Honda 90081-PX4-003 (3/8" ratchet head no socket required)
Toyota 90341-18040 (24mm hex plug with large magnet)
Toyota 90431-18057 (24mm hex plug with small magnet)
Kia 0K95B-27121 (24mm hex plug with very large magnet)
Aftermarket: PSR0401-1 (19mm head)

Pan plugs thread: Swap to 24mm Hex Plugs Rear Differential + Transmission

Mounts:

- The FWD & AWD hydraulic mount is shared between the 4-speed and 5-speed for our application (K-platform). However, the I4 and V6 models have different part numbers specified to them probably due to the torque difference between the engines. I have confirmed newer 6-speed and 8-speed mounts are an almost exact fit, except they require you to trim the upper locating pin near the top threads (Do at your own risk). Other than this, fitment & operation are perfect. If you are okay with this, then I would say definitely seek out a used 6-speed U660 or 8-speed U880 transmission mount to replace a blown out original. This should keep your Highlander's trans happy and smooth.

Left trans mount and right engine mount:
x3 Bottom nut 17mm: 64 ft-lbs
x1 Top nut 19mm: 70 ft-lbs
Top nut: 90080-17208 (M14x1.5)
Bottom nut: 90080-17207 x3 (M12x1.25)

Front vacuum engine mount:
x1 Upper bolt 19mm: 64 ft lbs
x3 Bottom nut 17mm: 64 ft-lbs

Rear engine mount:

x2 Mounting bolts to block 17mm: 55 ft lbs
x1 Bolt through rubber isolator 17mm: 47 ft lbs

Top dog bone / torque strut mount:
x1 Bolt to frame 14mm: 47 ft lbs
x1 Bolt through rubber isolator 14mm: 47 ft lbs

anyone know the part number for the solenoid responsible for shifting from 3rd to 4th gear? My '02 won't shift back into 4th gear after slowing down at a red light or stop sign (etc). We've replaced the filter and fluid twice, and just replaced knock sensors yesterday, still doing the same thing. Trying to find the number for the solenoid to replace but its not anywhere on the internet, which is surprising.
