Previous post: Clunk when applying brakes in reverse

So now I'm having a new issue. After having my front brakes serviced (nothing was replaced) and having about a week with no issues, I'm now hearing a "clunk" when RELEASING the brake when the car is in reverse - again there is no noise when the car is in park, drive, or neutral it's ONLY in reverse. If I come to a full stop while reversing (pedal fully depressed) and then release the brake to continue reversing there's a distinct "clunk". I had my husband stand outside the car to listen near each wheel to see if he could hear it outside the car, and he says it's coming from the front passenger tire area - same wheel that the original metallic clunk was coming from - but it's quieter than the previous clunk. Sound started up after I had to brake hard because a car cut me off in a roundabout. I'm honestly at a loss as to what to do at this point.

The other owner complained about the same problem, the clunk was apparent when reversing only...

IMO there are two options: either accept it as-is and service your brakes when they wear out, or since you are out of warranty replace brake pads with some aftermarket and hope it takes care of the noise...

Hi, I had my brakes serviced last Tuesday. Nothing was replaced at that time, but it seemed to have taken care of the issue and there was actually no noise until I had to brake hard yesterday afternoon when someone cut me off . Now, instead of clunking when the brake is applied while reversing....it clunks when releasing the brake while reversing. The fact that it doesn't make the noise in any other gear is frustrating since it makes it more difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. My car is still under the original 3-yr warranty and I actually purchased a 7-yr extended warranty, but when I reached out to the service department at the dealer I purchased it from I was told that since it's an issue with the brakes it's not covered by either of those warranties.

Right now my plan is to contact my normal mechanic, which is where I took it to get the brakes serviced, and see if I can bring it in again. Depending on what they find, I'll most likely end up replacing the front brakes early unless it turns out the clunk is being caused by something different.

Yeah, from memory, brakes are only covered for 1 year and 12K, unless extended warranty says otherwise...
