Glare from Windshield

Bad Design. Our Camry Hybrid LE windshield glares badly. We constantly see a reflection of the dashboard in the windshield.

Does anyone know why it was designed that way? What can be done? We have put a towel on the dash but that doesn't help either. Don't want to put money out for a custom Dashboard Cover if it won't help.

Has anyone conquered this problem?:help:

What I've noticed is that the center pedestal, which contains the clock and the dusk sensor, can produce bad glare when the sun is in the front passenger quadrant. This unit is made out of smooth plastic, and I've considered getting a piece of felt or some other dull material and cutting out an overlay for it. Thankfully, polarizing glasses do help. Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, what have you done to ameliorate it?

I have a 2012 Camry Hybrid LE with a grey dash and I have also noticed the reflection. I've been looking at the dashboard covers and wonder if they really work and how well they stay attached to the dash!

Has anyone used a dashboard cover for more than a few months and what has been your experience?

It may be the view angle. I'm 6'-2" and probably am looking down the hood versus straight out or more perpendicular to the angle of the windshield. In my case I don't experience any glare. I suspect the "less taller" a person is, the more the angle of the windshield plays against you in any of the newer cars with steeper pitched windshields as dictated by the wind tunnel outcome in the drive for fuel economy. The only suggestion I might have is to put the seat in the highest position to see if that helps?
I do have polarized sunglasses also, so that may mitigate some of the glare folks are reporting. But I don't always have my sunglasses on and can't say I've noticed any glare issue.

Hmm, I was driving around yesterday afternoon and I didn't notice any glare at all.

Edit-Okay, it seems to depend on where the sun is in the sky because I noticed some glare this morning on my drive to work. I wear polarized Ray Bans most of the time when it is light out so it cuts the glare out completely.

I have never owned a car that had this much glare in the windshield (from the dash reflection) - very annoying... It's a bad design having that shiny plastic above the center stack going across the dash. I suppose it could also have to do with the angle of the sun in the sky this time of year, vs being directly overhead, but I'm going to have to get something in a matte finish on there. I suppose I will ante up for one of those dash pads.

I agree, it's a poor design, but (as I've stated previously) for me it is the direct glare off of this piece of plastic that is the problem. I don't perceive a reflection from the windshield. But, if anyone comes up with a good idea of what to cover it with, let us know. I suppose I could take some black felt cut to size and lay it over the thing. Just make sure you avoid the light sensor in the middle behind the clock.

Not sure about 'conquered', but the problem is a lot worse with the 'shiny' dressings for vinyl surfaces. I had a 'helper' that put Armor All on the dash - and it took me several hours to get that stuff off. There are 'matte' dressings - try those if you insist on using that sort of goop.

Also, I find polarized sunglasses effectively eliminate glare...

Overview: Science and drivers on veiling glare and driving

This problem is called veiling glare and it is common in many cars. Not everyone is affected in the same way, though and it may have to do with your macular pigment optical density. I've tried to gather scientific evidence and information from various forums in this article:

Glare, worst driving comfort enemy: driver fatigue, eye strain causes and solutions

I hope it helps!
