I,ve searched this topic & I am still unclear as to whether it's OK to use one type of grease for the lubing the driveshaft. If so, what is recommended?

I just bought a tube at the Toyota parts department, probably payed an extra $2.00 over getting it some where else.... but if my truck ever has a drive shaft problem.... its Toyota grease! so I should have no warranty problems.
hahah if Toyota denied you your warranty because of what greased you used then I have bought my last Toyota and will never buy new and only used from a used car dealer
Any good EP grease is adequate. Not sure I would use lithium grease though, it is MP and dries up quickly. Might use a moly grease if parts were under water alot.
Comparing lithium to EP grease is like comparing WD40 to motor oil. They both have their uses.
oh sorry I didnt meant to sound like a smartass or an ass in general. I agree with you that you need to buy grease anyway and if its only a couple extra dollars then hell go right ahead. I dont live close to a dealer where I can do that so I just used a grease at a place my buddy works at. Just greased everything up last week actually
Toyota spec is Lithium-based NLGI #2 chassis grease. Needs to be lithium so it mixes with the stuff already in there. NLGI #2 is the viscosity grade. Better greases will contain moly or other solids, might be labeled EP (extreme pressure) but as long as they are lithium-based you are fine.
I hear that works the best! Plus if it starts to drip out you just get your mouth under there and catch it in your mouth! Dont want that to go to waste
^ & ^^ Just ignore those guys. They're part of that crowd that cooks food in their engines. The bacon grease just goes with the eggs under their hoods.
On that note, maybe we need a thread titled, "What you got cooking under the hood?"
It exceeds every requirement. I hear also the valvoline synblend and mystic JT-6 work well too. Then you can go order Amsoil grease if you really are anal.
Any type of NGLI #2 Lith Based grease will work, the important thing is that you grease it. If you grease it regulary you shouldn't have a prob.
The only thing I don't like about Mobil 1 is that it tends to seperate. I just pull the plunger on my grease gun and put some shop rags under it whenI store it. The red oil drips out a bit. I'm debating on switching to something different that doesn't seperate but I got a full toob of the stuff. Don't want to change or waste it.
I'm surprised that Toyota has lube points on its drive shafts. One of the biggest problems with lubing Ujoints is overlubing them such that you ruin the seals. Same way with tie rod ends. Bust the seal by overlubing, and the joint is done. Best to leave them alone.
Thanks - got a link to that excat doc with that wording?
