Thank you.

Do you currently have Toyota Red Coolant in your car, or has somebody put green stuff in at some point?

If you have red already, and no signs of rusty water, then its just a case of draining it all out via the drain on the bottom of the radiator, and the petcock on the side of the block, then do them up and refill with the correct ratio of coolant and water, then burp the system to ensure no air bubbles are trapped.

Now would be a goof time to consider replacing any old hoses or the thermostat etc, as when the system is drained, its easist time to do it

I've been using the Zerex Asian Red from the auto parts store.

Note that I have bought coolant from the dealer and was impressed with how reasonably priced it was (very competitive with the auto store price).

I don't know if the 96 is the 5FSE but in general just get the toyota red. I get mine from amazon. It is not premixed so it will need %50 water. Draining the radiator will only get half out. I do about 10 drain, fill with distilled water, run, cycles to get to almost %100 pure water in the system. Then you can just fill with the concentrated red and it will mix to a 50/50 as you run it. I also go the extra step of taking out the thermostat to get it to mix in the distilled water during my rinse cycles right away instead of having to wait for the system to come up to temperature and the thermostat to open.

Since I see you have the green in it now be sure to do at least 10 rinse cycles to get it all out before adding red. Sometimes it is no problem but sometimes it is. Just use the factory red from amazon, do a bunch of rinse cycles with the thermostat out, then when it is only water in the system drain the radiator one last time and fill the system with the concentrated red.

The best way to flush the cooling system completely is
1. Drain the radiator / put heater to hot
2. Remove hose from the thermostat. and top of the engine, hose stil lconnected to radiator.
3. Flush the radiator top to bottom with fresh water
4. Remove the thermostat
5. Flush engine from top where top radiator hose connects, and it will drain out from the thermostat. Keeping the thermostat IN the motor prevents a good amount of coolant from being flushed easily

Some people woldnl;t be comfortable flushing with the motor running,. but what i do is run the motor and flush the motor to get any trapped coolant out by using the water pump to flush out more coolant.

Yopu could also use the drains in the block,.... but if they are corroded and snap off, youre in for some trouble

6. Refill with 50 / 50 red and distilled ater using the coolant funnel while motor isrunning...the funnel is the. Best investment ever .
