The Tacoma hood scoop started on 2011 and newer Tacoma's? So if I see a Tacoma with a hood scoop its either a 2011, 2012, or 2013 model?

elwinna? Thank You! I am always watching other Tacoma's on the roads and I never see many with the hood scoops, thinking only the newer models have the hood scoops and I remember the salesman really making a big deal about the hood scoop when I was buying my truck.
He was telling me it was new for the year, but he was just giving me a line of BS like all salesmen do.

I just can't get past the fact that they are fake. It's one of the reasons I went with the offroad package in 05 and why I'm going with the Limited now. I do agree though, they do look nice.

Totally fake, but totally cool to me! Actually I also liked the color coded mirrors and bumpers on the Sport. I think more people like the hoods than dislike them, based on the number of people in the trading thread that are looking for the scoops.

I always do my homework before I talk to the salesman then ask them a bunch of questions I already know the answer to. If they give me a line of BS then I know they either don't know their products or they are telling me anything to get a sale.

TRD Sport is really the only way to go:D

In the salesman's defense, he may have been referring the model year redesign of the scoop being new.

YUP! I just bought my BRAND NEW Taco last week! Auto, 4 door, 6' bed, tow package, white paint and fake hood scoop were my essentials!

As far as salesmen go not many know any real details about what they sell no matter what kind of salesman they are whether it be real estate, boat broker, car salesman, etc. I asked one why "Speedway Blue" was discontinued and she relpied that it was too popular and Toyota didn't want to sell too much of one color! That put her in the nice but oblivious catagory right then and there. I mean if I were a car company and everyone wanted a color called "Saturday Morning Hangover Puke" well then load up them spray guns!

I also went with the sport package for the looks. More for painted bumpers and mirrors then the scoop. I had a 2000 Camero SS witch had a active hood scoop. So I got used to it pretty quick. I do wish the sales man told me that the main difference between the off road and the sport package was the off road had a locking dif. And the sport does not.

All is not lost though, the Sport has LSD which is better for most people in most conditions. Can't trust a salesperson to know everything.... or much of anything.... or to be honest about what they know or don't know. Which is why I do as much research as possible before even going on a test drive, and especially before committing to a purchase.

Is there something wrong with me that I am watching every other Tacoma on the road I see trying to figure out if its the sport, off road, or SR5 and trying to figure out what year it is?
The 2005 to current new ones all look the same to me!
I am at a gas station and there's another Tacoma in another lane and I have to walk over and talk to the owner asking him how he likes it and what year is it and what add-on's, he shows his off,, then he has to walk over and look at mine.
Then when looking for a parking spot at shopping center I always seem to find an empty space right next to another Tacoma,,,, it doesn't matter if its a far away parking spot,,,, the Tacoma seems they need to be together parked next to each other. Did I park it there just to show it off to the owner if he walks out before me, or did I park there just to look at his Tacoma? Or both? Am I nuts?
Is this a new cult and and I am already brainwashed?
I have never loved a vehicle as much as I love my Tacoma
Should I be worried? Whats going on?

2005 does not have the little protector piece at the front edge of the bed, and the front mudflaps (if they're even still on at this point) are shorter (assuming someone hasn't trimmed theirs before they broke).

And the only way to tell an OR apart from an SR5 while driving is the sticker on the bed. Beyond that, they're likely identical exterior-wise. Of course, if it's a DC LB, it's not an OR (That's an easy one).

Sports are obvious for all the painted parts (grill, mirrors, rear bumper, and hood scoop...but you can't go by the hood scoop alone since so many swapped hoods for the scoop).

Brainwashed? Only you? What gave you that idea?

I'm fixing to make some mods to mine with a 3" lift and larger tires. I would like to change out the hood for one of the sport hoods with the scoop. Does anyone know how hard they to find are? Will one off a newer model fit my 06?

The scoop is fake??!?!?!?

I bought the sport because I wanted a TRD double cab with 6' bed. The sport was my only option. LSD was a bonus since I don't offroad. The scoop was a non-factor. In fact, I don't even notice it anymore unless the sun is at that perfect angle to reflect off the scoop into my eyes (very annoying).

I am happy the hood scoop is fake,,, if it was real,,,, dirt, mud, snow and water would get in and dirty the top of my engine.
yea,, I am almost ashamed to admit this,,,, but,,,,but, I keep my engine clean,,,, yes,, I wax and polish the inside hood , fenders and firewall,, and Armor All all the rubber hoses and plastic parts...

please don't tell anybody this cause I have everybody fooled,,,, but I buff and polish my exhaust,,, mostly the rear tail pipe with chrome polish making it look like a totally chrome pipe and everybody thinks I have a custom exhaust

yes,,, I love my Tacoma

btw: the best chrome polish is Honda Motorcycle Chrome Polish,,,,, 10 times better than the stuff Harley Davidson sells

ohhh noooo what did I just say? everybody is going to make fun of me,,,, I don't care,,,,, you guys don't know me and you won't tell my friends

303 used to be my go to for vinyl and rubber. I still use it for things like boat seats, ect... I try pretty much everything that goes on the market, super VRT has been one of the first things I have seen to be noticeably different, it lasts a lot longer than 303, repels water and finishes dry not slippery.

Tacoma specific parts VRT works really good on are the, bed rails, rear bumper top, inside of the tailgate, inside the bed sides, rearview mirror supports, window trim, tires, and the mud flaps.

To keep on the scoop topic. I use another product to keep that fresh looking, another product by adams called "in and out spray". It works amazing and is fast for the scoop grill and inside, as well as some of the front bumper inserts that you cant get a rag into easily. Any over spray on the paint is easily wiped away with a microfiber without any streaking.

another good cheap dressing I use for things like the inside of fender wells and tires is Meguires Hyper dressing diluted 3 to 1, this stuff rocks not only for value but looks as well.

I like my dressings:cool:
