Can anyone share how to change the auxiliary battery for hybrid? I’ve searched and only information is pre 2019.l have reached out to AAA and they don’t even offer service for our models. Input would be great. Thanks.

Never had to change it but there's a small access panel in the trunk, passenger side towards the rear. Just pop that off and the battery is inside, it's a small compartment but looks like it would be fairly easy to replace if needed. Looks like a standard size battery but there may be some special requirements.

I had a 2014 Avalon XLE Hybrid. I traded the car off in 2021. It still had the original battery. The auxiliary battery will last a very long time in a hybrid. Or it should.

I think we got either 5 or 6 years on ours. You cannot cut corners on hybrid 12v battery, it has to be a very good battery or else the car will not function properly. I found the dealer did not have a battery in stock when my pooped out and when I went looking for one it was impossible to find one. That was a few years back. I have no clue why there were none around. It was like someone had planned a shortage to make lots of money. Unless someone has a better explanation.

Cars been acting weird. Battery drains way too quickly. Took it to autozone and they figured out it was my starter/aux battery. Then went to CarQuest and they had one specifically made for hybrid in stock from Die Hard. The rep said he cannot touch hybrid vehicles but helped me anyways. Once swapped, there were no weird codes or anything. I guess I just had a faulty battery hearing others having much longer shelf life. O well… Thanks for the input!

1. there is no starter on hybrids
2. looks like you had bad battery, happens
3. did they replace it with AGM deep cycle battery?
4. did they move temp sensor from old battery to the new one?
5. does the new battery have vent provision to have vent tube connected?
6. as a general suggestion, when swapping those batteries, have auxiliary 12V supplied to the system. Most convenient is 12V LiIo back up via one of them 12V power ports. Or, have battery connected via jumper cables under the hood, large nut in the fuse box is (+) and then any negative on the engine or chassis of your choice.

Page 651 in my '19 owner's manual describes the battery replacement.Look up battery replacement in the index. It isn't rocket science or terribly different from any modern car. Ther are specifications as to the type of capabilities the battery should have in that section.

Suprising you should be having issues this soon. What year is your car? ('20 or early '21 has it had the DCM fix?) Left without starting for long period? Periods?

Not our experience, we had a 2--6 HiHy and we had to replace the auxiliary battery twice in 245K miles. that's just about right for Toyota's estimated lifespan of 3-5 years. It was in the engine compartment (we now have a Corolla Hybrid) and AAA came both times.

I just replaced my 15yr old 12 volt battery camry hybrid last month at 197k miles. So far it's been the longest 12v car battery I've ever owned. Toyota batteries are getting shorter life in newer models is the new trend (or they were designed to)

Just like any car, turn car off and remove the key, disconnect the negative cable first, next remove the positive cable, clean the cable ends if dirty, install the new battery and put the positive cable on first and tighten, next put on the negative and tighten, you are done.

Our AUX battery died after only 2 years on a brand new Highlander Hybrid. Had to wait 8 days before the dealer could get/find a new battery. Had it jump started by AAA on 2 occasions and Toyota gave me a lot of flack about replacing it. The car only had 15,000 miles on it. The battery itself is around $350 and with the install, they said it would have cost over $500 which is ridiculous. The battery is in the rear on the left and since these are inside the vehicle they must be vented to the outside so as far as I know, a regular battery will not work, it is only a 12V battery though.

Our 2013 Avalon hybrid auxiliary battery lasted a whopping 10 years. Just changed it a couple of weeks ago.
