With smart keyless system, I wonder if it is possible to unlock the door and start engine when smart key battery is dead.
If it is impossible, should I call roadside assistant?

Also wondering the price of replacement of battery at dealer and if there is any warning alarm to replace the battery.
The LED display will say something like replace key battery low.

I believe my 09 Highlander Hybrid is the same system as yours. There is a laser cut key that should be in your key fob. It is removed by pressing on in a small latch on the side of the fob to release the key. Only the driver's door has a key opening. Insert key into lock and turn like you would with any key. Once inside touch the fob to the strat button as you press the start button. The owner's manual explains this. Or you could do what I did. I bought a five pack of batteries very cheaply off Amazon.com. I replaced my batteries and put an extra in my center console. If I am ever i n you position I will just replace the battery and be on nmy way. Again this information should be in your owner's manual as it is in my 09 Highlander manual.
