Removal Procedure:
Use plastic panel tool and remove mirror cap. *No need to remove mirror glass that YouTube videos show. Maybe a good time to replace mirror turn signal if desired. Please excuse the "shirtless" video. It's hot inside a summer garage in Phoenix:

 

I think the corolla hatchback's mirror caps are different than the sedan.

I may change the turn signals on the side mirrors as well while I am wrapping the mirror caps. It seems like an interesting DIY.

I prefer the yellow ones (no blue / yellow) because I do not want to stop by the police. 😄

 

. . . . all you gotta do is . . . as one would successfully snap the mirror head off the base then scratch the door with the head.

 

So, forget about those nice sequential side blinkers first.

Should I remove the mirror glass fist then press down some tabs inside and pull the side mirror shell out?

I need to wrap the mirror caps first before thinking to purchase those fancy blinkers 😁😁

 

Yes... I have a new passenger side mirror which I need to crack open to replace painted cover, so I'll do it as soon as I receive my dynamic LED turn signals and tool.

I ve watched the videos and they all seem to break tab, when I installed my power mirrors I snapped one tab a mirror cap, but I just bought new black ones so I didnt care, take your time carstompit didnt break any tabs but it takes patience

 

I have a chance to remove the mirror caps today. You are right, the plastic tap (the one that you circled) on the left hand side (square tap with a hole) broke. Fortunately, the mirror caps were tight after I snapped them back.

There were 2 connectors required to be disconnected in order to remove the mirror glass. One for the heated mirror and the other one for the blind spot monitor. The glass should be removed prior to remove the mirror caps so that you could see the plastic taps inside the mirror caps.

The job was not easy and scary because if you missed to press down any tabs from the mirror caps and tried to pull out the mirror cap, the other plastic taps may be broken at any chance. All plastic taps should be pressed down at the same time so that you could pull the mirror caps off.

My mirror caps wrapping were done. I wish I do not have to remove the caps again.

 

Here is another video for reference. The guy just pulled out the upper mirror cap cover without using any tools or breaking any taps.

He pulled the mirror cap cover from the inside edge of the side mirror and he did not even remove the glass mirror. 😅

 

That's it... Just crack it open from the back, like a walnut.

Did you not try doing it the right way, without removing mirror?

I followed the videos instructions to take the mirror caps off. I took off the mirror glass first.
