Hello! I'm new here. Well, I just ran over a curb with my brand new Prius C this evening that's not even a month old yet. You can't see any damage when you're standing, but I looked underneath, and just at the edge there's a scrape, where there was paint. And the rubber underneath is scuffed. I'm very upset at myself. And I wanted to take care of this car. Still do. I'll post pics later. I bought this Toyota insurance, sorry I don't remember what it's called, but it protects damage to paint chips, etc, so I don't know if they will fix it. And it's technically not an accident right so I can't file it, as an accident right? Plus my insurance will go up. I really want to keep this car at the best condition. I'm upset at myself, but I will post pics later when I take them, when it is day so I can see more. What is your advice on what should I do? Thanks!

Take it to a body shop, get them to put it on a lift in a lighted area where you can see the damage. Get estimate. Ponder if potential for future rust exists if not repaired quickly/right. Kick self. Then recall that almost all drivers have done something similar. Drink cool beverage of your choice.

Yes, this is an accident and could be filed with insurance. I wouldn't. If its not visible except from underneath and no metal is exposed (which sounds like there is not), I would either leave it or do what I could with inexpensive touch up materials. This won't be your last incident like this, with a low riding car. If you spend money each time it happens, you'll be spending a lot of money over time. I'd wait until something visible happens and then get a professional repair.

I believe the thing you're talking about with Toyota is a type of road hazard coverage as it was offered to me as well. You could check with them and see - it might be covered, though maybe not since you were at fault. If they'll cover it, go for it.

Check to make sure your tire isn't damaged by the impact. I damaged the sidewall on one by doing what you did. You PROBABLY borked your alignment a bit too, maybe not enough to make a difference.

This stuff happens, especially with low cars and lots of parking lots, roads etc. that have big dips going in and out.

I don't drive a Prius but I drive a Honda CRZ with an aftermarket body kit (and will be lowering the car even more) and came from 2 Honda S2000 Roadsters. I've also been in the car show scene for about five years and know the pain that is felt when I've damaged my cars.

My advice: This stuff happens and don't sweat it as long as it a) don't put you at risk and b) it won't rust the car. Thankfully it sounds like what you did was cosmetic.

Let me ask you, will you get every door ding you might get fixed? How about the next time you scrape the front of you car going down a steep driveway? You can only do so much to keep your car pristine, like not drive it.
