installing aftermarket steering wheel

well, honestly, its kind of annoying to use. it takes more turning action /c its smaller, and it is one of those cheap ebay wheels, so the top part flexes, and pretty bad too. it holds up fine for driving of course, but any sort of heavy impact or full braking = bend, unless you move your hands to the center sides of the wheel to brace... but, it does look better, but, its not worth doing unless you get a quality steering wheel. if i could do it again, id find a better wheel or perhaps an oem replacement.
but anyway, here it is:

1. make sure your front wheels are straight, then remove the cover. unscrew the mounting frame from the wheel, there are little screws behind the wheel, on the bottom and top. then unscrew the wheel, itll be tight of course.

2. youll see this in like 5 mins

3. mount THE HUB, and test fit it wth the wheel to make sure its alaigned correctly.

4. connect the horn, line the wheel holes up with the center plate and hub, and drive in the hex screws, and your done.

not a bad mod to do, but make sure its a strong wheel. also, cheap ebay steering wheels may look rigid, but in fact there not, not the ones of this design. its also small enough that it would work out well on go cart or even a bumper car. ill be looking for a new steering wheel soon, and as soon as i find one this wheel + hub kit will be up for sale. :werd:

Frozentide... he was talking to me, and yes that's the newer Momo Monte Carlo model, mine is a 1994 Model (mint as hell) and actually looks better than the new models, mine has yellow stitching and thanks to CDUFF77 it's now complete with a JDM TRD button. :D

ok everyone.. DO NOT DO THIS, unless you have a good wheel and hub from a reliable company. THE HUB STRIPPED OUT AND ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE!!!! i am relacing it with my original one. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THOSE PIECES OF ABSOLUTE SHIT. it stripped so bad, that it was barely holding on and had developed lots of play. it got so bad, that the nut holding the hub on failed to secure it. I AM DEAD SERIOUS PLEASE IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE. that steering wheel is now a paperweight, and the hub is to be thrown away. unfortunately i cant get pics, just take my word for it, PLEASE!! im sorry i ever posted this in the first place. i sincerely hope nobody has had an accident due to these hubs.

hah yeah it was a bit. But after you pay shipping for an ebay one, this wheel cost just about the same.

Oh, if anybody does this, when you go to pull the actual wheel off, leave the big bolt on in the middle, lossen it, but leave it with a few threads on, I didn't and almost broke my nose when I finally popped the wheel off.

well one day it developed so much play so quickly that i had to turn around and come back home. when i got home i tested it and realized i could have been a dead mang. i dont think you have much to worry about, if you got a real one from like advance or something, not a cheap ebay hub. the chances of it stripping out on you like the handlebars are slim to none. ive had dreams of steering going out b4, driving an old rwd toyota like a celica or supra or something.. steering invokes paranioa in general

Are you sure the fit was right ? it sounds like the hole in the hub was too large for the steering shaft but just tight enough to hold for awhile, if the hub was aluminum it would'nt take long for the steel splines on the steering shaft to sheer the aluminum splines off.

the GTS wheel looks like the same one in the SR5, and my SR5's interior is blue, so I would say yes, it does exsist in blue. :p:

I've had this old Izumi on so many vehicles I've lost count. it's a 14", you can't buy hubs for them anymore so with each vehicle I have to visit the bone yard to find another steering wheel to butcher the hub and have it welded up. I just pulled it off my old 84 Corolla and hoping it'll fit my 1990 Corolla.
